What do you think the MIB's name is?

Plomeek Broth

Commander
Red Shirt
Their has to be a reason we know Jacob's name, but not his nemesis. The dialogue dances around it every episode. Who is he? A historical figure? Aaron? One of the Losties? Jacob? Doesn't have a name? We simply will never find out his name?

What do you think his true name is and WHY?:whistle:

One theory I've read is that he's Jacob, or the bad parts of Jacob (think Kirk in The Enemy Within) so his name would be Jacob.

Could be Aaron...somehow, with the comments about the crazy mother and he is taking care of Claire. Could explain the weird look he gave Kate as well.

But really it could be anyone, the body we've seen him inhabit in flashbacks might not even be his original body. Could just be a random dead person.

I've called him Esau quite a few times as this show is replete with Biblical references.....

He's too badass for a name. :p Esau would make sense in a nice way though.

I have a feeling it will be something anti-climactic. He said he used to be a man, and somehow I believe him. Probably he was just an ordinary guy before he came to the island.

I actually like ther Aaron theory. It seems to fit so far.
I like it too. There was an early episode where Locke built Claire a crib for Aaron. In a weird way, he was building a crib for himself!
I'd like it to be Aaron, because I want that bloody storyline that they've been building up since season 1 ("must not be raised by another", "he was your responsability... now everyone pays the price") to tie in to the overall story somehow! :rommie:

I think his name will actually turn out to be Esau, and the reason it hasn't been stated onscreen is because then it would be crystal clear that he and Jacob are brothers and they don't yet want to reveal that. But that would be the only reason Jacob appeared to MIB as the young boy he grew up with and why MIB was so disturbed by this.

Yeah there are two possible reasons:

1. Viewer-centric: the name would reveal something to the viewers, be a clue to a mystery we've been puzzling for a long time, so they're holding it back until the right moment.

2. Plot-centric: in some mythologies, knowing someone's true name gives you power over them, so it's something that is held back to prevent that from happening. Think Rumpelstiltskin. Perhaps Jacob knew it, but so far none of the candidates do.

Number 2 is interesting. I doubt they're going to go that direction, but it certainly is interesting and something I hadn't considered.

They could also be holding the name back simply because they want us to endlessly speculate about whether or not he's actually Aaron, Walt, etc.

You guys aren't following the clues, and the old adage that sometimes the simplist answers are the correct ones.

It's "John Locke", people. That's why they aren't mentioning the name.

That's why that scene between Desmond and him was so important. He wasn't hiding anything. He said his true name.

John Locke.

It's obvious. This show ain't rocket science.
