What Do You Think of the TOS Retro Art Prints

Bubbles McGee

Lieutenant Commander
Has anyone else heard about Juan Ortiz's art prints? Basically he is creating movie posters (reminiscent of the period) for each of the TOS episodes. Four posters are being released each month. The first four were released in August and the most recent set came out just yesterday. I am not one to buy this sort of thing, but I find the artwork quite interesting. I am not trying to promote the sale of these, I was just wondering if anyone else has seen these and what they think of them. I think they're pretty cool. Here are the links:

Eh. Not very interesting.

Yeah. I love the idea of the retro feel they are going for, but I agree. Boring

FWIW i think the balance of terror one is the best.

I love skulls, and I love the enterprise, so it's a shame I don't like the Children shall lead one but it's really bland

I think they are fun, but not really my style. I think if I grew up in the 60's I would be more interested in the look. I do like the idea though, of a poster for each episode. it's a huge project.

The Ultimate Computer poster would have been better if the "space" color was darker, there was less orange and the Connies were actually white instead of the weird tan. Balance of Terror looks great for being a 60's retro...I'll consider getting it, but otherwise PASS on the rest since I'm not really into that style.

I love those. "The City on the Edge of Forever" is just gorgeous and I really like the vibe on "The Way to Eden"

I really dig them I think they should do some tng ones in the style of the 80s like crazy DOS game cover art or cheesy action vhs covers

These are nice works of art and they really do capture the '60s period well. "The Way to Eden" really reminds me of the concert posters of the time.

The poster style is too much the product of modern day interpretation of Mid Century graphic style, which is (in my opinion) is far different than what was produced at the time. For an example, see Ace and Pyramid sci-fi novel covers of the 50s and 60s, or better still, see the various covers painted for the Bantam Star Trek novels by Lou Feck, et al.

Well, there are 72 more to come over the next 18 months. I agree to The Way to Eden one looking like some concert posters of the era. I use to have a replica of a famous Doors concert poster at the Whisky-A-Go-Go that looked something like that, or was it a Zeppelin poster?

Some are cool and some not so much but I'd rather have all the movie posters. I've got Generations and STVI. If i wanted retro artwork I'd just rather find like an old Star Trek comic and frame it.

Maybe I'd get one if it just looked too awesome but so far one hasn't stood out like that.
