What do you think are the worst inventions of the internet age?

Also emojis, terrible idea so is crypto and NFTs
Emoticons and emojis are really just pictographic additions to language - a versatile shorthand for complex intent - I quite like though rarely use them. The Emoji Movie was literally crap, even with Patrick Stewart, so you might have a point.

But, yes, both crypto and NFTs are henious. Especially egregious is crypto-mining, which is environmentally very wasteful. Blockchain is a useful invention, however.

The always online crap, subscription this, subscription that, and the cloud nonsense where your data is not safe despite what they tell you...
Having once paid a subscription for an Amazon service where I put my music data in a cloud, only for them to stop that service a few months later, I heartily agree. The small print means that you will likely be screwed over and be powerless to do anything about it. Once they have your money, they never give it back.

What about the content you upload, is that also gone?

I had my own backup, but offsite storage should be reliable and permanent. I suspect people were abusing the service and storing other data - innocent or otherwise - disguised as music files. There's the possibility that Amazon felt legally vulnerable. There no reason why cloud storage shouldn't be commercially viable. Suitably encrypted data just looks like random noise.

80K cars that can plan and execute every aspect of your life, yet, apparently, have no turn signals.

Plus, Influencers. ( with apologies and no offense meant to any that are here!)

Internet age.. Well not the internet itself, its been a great blessing, having all the library's at your litteral fingertip.
So.. in List Form!
1. Social media, from influencers to the scum and villiany in all of them. They do serve a purpose, but 90% is Ass.
2. Everything connected, Sounds like 70's Iron Man comics.. lets add a Transistor to this toaster! Look! Especially when its your thermostat and the energy company can raise or lower your temperature at there will..
3. Everything Subscription, You will own nothing and LIKE it! the second you stop paying.. its gone.
4.Cancel Culture, People screw up, sometimes its stuff said between freinds back in middle school! There has to be some type of 2nd chance, redemption, not just.. your done, get lost, oh good luck making any money.
5. BILLS! back in the day, you didn't have to pay for tv, internet, Etc. now add 100's of dollars a month to "Stay Connected" ugh..

There's more but thats all I can think of ATM.

I agree with all of your list. I know a couple of people that are influencers and really all they are doing is getting people to buy products that they promote, the internet version of home TV shopping and they are cool people but it's the ones that hob nob and go to events, or try to get people to act a certain way, those are the ones I really detest.

People who refuse to carry cash and businesses who refuse to take cash.

Seems the old proverb "cash is king" isn't true anymore

I remember a recent episode of L&O where the detectives go to a place called a "content house". Basically a high rise apartment building populated ENTIRELY by "influencers". I'm like, if this place burned to the ground, society would be WAY better off.

That said, there is a way in which social media has truly made us happier: Travis and Sigrid.
