What do you know about humidifiers?

It's a blistery cold and dry winter here in Illinois this year. And my skin feeling it.

My skin hasn't been this dry and itchy in years. I want to get a humidifier for my apartment, but I don't know a damn thing about them. Are there any particular points to look for in a humidifier, or are they all basically the same?

I'd say they're all pretty much the same. The only point you'd need to look at is making sure the one you buy can handle the cubic footage of the space you want it in but considering you're in an apartment that's probably not a big issue.

If you get one I'd reccomend placing it in the closet with your HVAC system where it'll be easier for the the humidified air to get distributed through the space of the apartment.

I can't speak to the humidifier, but as a guy who also suffers from really bad dry skin in the winter, Dove moisturizing body soap and the tanning salon works incredible for me bro.

I'd just go for lotion, but if you really want one, you could probably get a small one fairly cheaply at Walmart or Target. Or you cold use an old ice cream bucket filled with water with a rag draped over the handle and into the water.

I would just go for lotion, but I also tend to get bloody noses when it's really dry, and I'd rather avoid those as much as possible.

Buy a humidifier and a dehumidifier; put them in the same room and let them fight it out.

I would recommend just buying a small one and putting it near your bed - you only really need the extra humidity while you're sleeping. They're all pretty much the same.

That's what I do. I also use tanning oil for the dry skin, and saline for the dry nasal passages.

I've been using saline nasal spray daily for months and I still end up with a crusty, bloody nose 3 or 4 times a week! I bought a "cool mist humidifier" going on two weeks ago and have been running it all night every night but I'm still not feeling the benefits of it. The skin is a LITTLE dry/itchy...but the nasal passages (and the too-frequent bloody noses) are very painful and make for a difficult night's sleep.

Every time I pet my cat, I end up shocking her!

I just use Dove lotion to keep my hands soft and Lypsyl to stop cracked lips.

Eh, I couldn't care less about my hands. They're gonna get dry and cracked from work regardless. The worst parts for me are my back and upper arms.
