What do you have your thermostat set to?

Living in Central Florida, l pretty much keep mine at about 65 F all year around. Kinda hard to tell exactly where its at though, since my thermostat is one of those old doohickies with the little plastic nub that pans across the top, rather than one of those newfangled digital contraptions which l would prefer.

It's set at 75 F, but I really have the AC on manual and only turn it on when the temperature inside the house breaks 80-85 F. At night or when I'm away at work, I don't have it on at all.

The AC is set to 25 during the day and 22 at night (in the summer), the furnace is set to 22 during the day (morning and evening when I am home) and 18 at night (in the winter).

Go to your nearest home improvement store and pick one up. Depending on features they cost less $100 and can save you money in accuracy and timer settings. Takes about 10 minutes to install with nothing more than a screwdriver. If you rent your home just take it with you when you move.



I like my place like my refrigerator - sub zero. Here in Florida summer sucks. The humidity is always so high that by the time you exit your house and get in your car your drenched in sweat. And I don't mean damp armpits. I mean you look like you've been out in a heavy rainstorm.

77 in the day and 73 at night. I'd have it higher at night, but gotta keep the wife happy. Of course, even set at 77, our AC has a hard time keeping the house cool enough in this extreme heat, so that the temperature inside is usually reading 80-85.

Yeah, I wonder about the accuracy or effectiveness of these thermostats sometimes. What is 80 degrees according to a thermostat in one person's home may feel nothing like another person's home that is also supposedly at 80 degrees. Luckily our current apartment tends toward the cool side, so that sometimes we are surprised by how high the number on the thermostat is because it really feels quite cool in here.

We've got it on 80 right now, but it's still on most of the time given daytime temps get to ~105 or so.

During the summer, 74F. About 68-69F in winter months. I'd prefer it a couple of degrees warmer but I don't want to pay the utility bill for it.

I hold out for as long as possible during the day, since I'm home most of the day, with windows open.

Setting is 80-81 F, but sometimes we drop it to 79 F. You'd think we'd have a low power bill, huh? Last month, with the AC used this sparingly, PG&E bill was around $200. Yeah. They really rip us off here, calculating "average use" in frikkin' springtime! I hope the PG&E executives burn in hell--and have to pay the gas bill for the flames!

Around here, $200 is a lot cheaper than you will find in anything larger than an apartment at this time of year.

Our electric bill for our apartment here this month is $150. This is with the a/c set at 80F in the morning, 85F through the afternoon when no one is home, and 77F overnight.

We've routinely had July and August power bills at $400+. That's...annoying. I'm glad I've become used to 80 F.

We have 3 window A/C units that pretty much run non-stop. They must be very energy efficient, because I barely notice any increase in the power bill. It's actually pretty cool.

Julia Louis-Dreyfuss and Jason Alexander appear in the 3rd season, but the Seinfeld reunion arc that everyone loved actually happens in season 7. I highly recommend it. Season 6 is pretty phenomenal too.

Yeah, I have the S1 and S7 DVDs. I got the S7 DVD just for the reunion arc for Seinfeld and S1 because of my intent to watch through the series which never came about.

Alaskan homes rarely have A/C, and mine is no exception. Right now I have the thing set at 58 or so, but that is so the heat will go on if it gets too cold overnight or on a rainy day.

In winter I keep it set at about 60, and wear a sweater and socks. I like it cool - I hate being hot.

When I lived in Atlanta, I kept it at 69 in summer (which usually meant it was about 75 upstairs in the bedrooms) - I had a big electric bill, but made up for it in winter when I kept it set at about 59.
