Ok, I love Trek.
But I only got into it over the last year, watching a series start to finish, so I'm pretty new, and I was wondering why fans, among who I now count myself, can get so pissed off with Trek.
Im just going to digress... sorry. When I was about 12 I started reading Stephen King, I'm a good reader, and I was also reading good literature, but I found King ok for escapism. People used to see me with a King book and take the piss out if him for being just a horror writer. I defended him all the time, I didnt say he was Noble prize stuff, but ok. Then he dropped something called 'The Dark Tower' this is the last book in a series which hadnt been good for a while, i wont go into it but just a taste: (dont read following sentence if dnt want it spoiled) the big villain turns out to be a an old man throwing explosive golden snitches from a balcony, they get rid of him by drawing a pic of him and rubbing him out...
Anyway, I was pissed. Not so much becuase it was so bad but because I had defended this guy, and he'd just handed me 500 words of shit. I sort of think the same about Trek, its really annoying having the defend it, its such a good show and all. But then someone will walk in on you watching 'The Amazing OKona' or 'Star Trek Generations' and you'll just curse how bad it is. You just have to shake it off with 'oh this is a bad episode'. This is something the writers dont often understand, there is so much obligation to be write well, and they often just hand in hack scripts.
