What do YOU do to promote Trek book?

Outside of buying ad space on the MTA, I can't think of anything else to do.

MTA?

I would assume that that means, "Metro Transit Authority."

So like the either the New York subway system or buses?

Funny thing that, a lot of the advertising boards (well the ones like TV screens that change every 20 or so seconds) on the London Underground have the CBS logo on them, not sure if they own the ad space or actually make the boards themselves though.

I'm another one of those who sort the novels in bookstores--in my experience, they're generally not grouped together properly (unlike, say, the larger shelf of Star Wars beneath them), so I'll rearrange them in a way that seems to make more sense (e.g. by making sure the books which lead into Destiny are together and in order) and try to put titles face-out when I know they've gotten people talking here. :)

I've been quick to mention titles on my blog...especially around the time SNW 10 was coming out. ;)

I also do some work from time to time on the wikis in an attempt to improve the Google PageRank of articles associated with the authors and TrekLit titles.

By the by, how'd you guess I was gay?? Was it the Leona avatar that gave it away? :p

Nope. You said there were no fans in your area. I Googled '"Star Trek" Dublin' and the third suggestion that came up was for a gay and lesbian Star Trek group who had a meeting in 2006, so I figured if there was such a niche group there was likely to be more ST fans out there, Dublin being a fairly big city and all.

So you'd tell strangers you were gay, but not that you were a Star Trek fan?

If your lecturer had asked "Who's gay?" you'd have raised your hand, but not for "Who knows Data the android from TNG?"

What is the world coming to? ;)

Actually in my experience, the SW novels tend to be even more haphazardly shelved than the ST ones........

^ Haha! The Chapters here had them SW and ST mixed up... I fixed it out of shock and a little insanity.

The hardest thing, as I think I've ranted about before, with trying to get people hooked on ST is that when you lend them books... sometimes they keep them. I still haven't gotten Avatar book 1 back! Lets face it, that doesn't take more than 5 months to read!!!

Well, it's a lot easier to mess up the order of the Star Wars books when such books are given 10 times the inventory space of the Star Trek books (as is currently the case).

Well, either I have a Star Wars analogue here in Winnipeg, or the employees at Chapters/Coles/McNally Robinson are more on top of that franchise...

The Star Trek titles tend to be a jumble, haphazardly mixing up series and miniseries, while Star Wars can be counted on to at least stick to a semblance of chronological order (prequel titles grouped together, New Republic titles grouped together, and so forth).

Both franchises are pretty mixed up (within their own franchise not together). they've got TOS books through in the middle of TNG books, with a Titan tossed in there in Star Trek. Then in Star Wars they'll have one or two NJO books with Legacy of the Force book and then a Clone Wars book, and that's in both Borders and B&N. Trust me, it's a nightmare when you're looking for something specific.

Oh, and the one that really baffled me was when went in to B&N and found that they had three copies of Shards and Shadows set cover out in the middle of all of the Star Wars. My mom and I were both scratching our heads over that one (I don't drive, so my mom gave me a ride).
