What do you do to calm down?

I'll go for a drive and turn the stereo up loud while playing something like Appetite for Destruction or the Vault on the MP3 player or CD player.

I forgot to mention, I do a lot of writing too. Depends on what kind of "upset" I am. Poetry sometimes... sometimes a letter to the person who has raised my hackles (though I don't send it) -- all handwritten. It's very cathartic.

If it's a general, "I'm having a crappy day and the whole world sucks!" then I will write other stuff. But then, that's the career I'm attempting to have... so I don't mind if a bad mood propells original work -- especially if it turns out to be good. :p

As others said, the long hot shower or just driving. One time I went driving and found myself in the next state before I could really begin to think clearly.

how do you like your .45-70? is it a lever action or a single shot?
Ive been thinking about getting a Marlin Lever Action and an H&R single shot, cant really decide between the two, both are very attractive in different ways....
I dont know of anyone who has a .45-70 but Ive always kinda liked em....

I have two 45-70s. Both are from H&R. One is a Buffalo Classic with the 32" barrel the other is a NEF with a full length forestock. Both are a blast to shoot. The H&R guns are a great bargain. I also reload, so I can tailor the ammo to whatever task I choose for it. Going to take the Buffalo Classic out deer hunting later this month.

The Marlin is a good gun if you don't mind using flat nose bullets. Thats the appeal of a single shot...you can load pointed bullets.

I am also planning (when finances will allow) to take the Buffalo Classic rifle to a gunsmith and have it rechambered in 45-90...more power is good. :)

Sometimes angry loud ranting to angry loud music in your car helps. Beating the steering wheel is fun too.

I'll crank up Wagner music on my headphones, load up Empire Earth - a real time strategy war game - and listen to the music while bombing and nuking a computer opponent into oblivion.

"I want to rule the whole world and kill everybody living here" more or less sums up my feelings as they were partway through a certain day late last year. I had boss problems, I found out that my pipes had burst and were flooding the house while I was at work, and then on top of it, the folks at Starbucks gave me the wrong thing. It took me a while to cool down. It is really rare for me to get truly angry though, and even when I do, folks don't usually notice. I haven't actually got out-of-control angry since I was mid-teens, which would have been almost ten years ago.

Forgot to mention: I swear my fucking head off! Bizarre flaming Flandersisms have become a speciality.

Last night something happened and apparently I angrily described something deeply unpleasent involving a crowbar. Soon I'll need a swear jar.

I play one of my guitars. Sometimes I will grab my Strat, set my amp to "Heavy Metal" mode and just turn it up.

Yeah, playing music is even more effective than listening to it.

Other things that work for me:

Walking (especially on a treadmill, because it's more intense)
Ranting to a friend, writing in my journal or both, depending on the issue
Distracting myself on-line

I always have to laugh at myself, or at least I get a little giggle at the absurdity of the situation after I'm finished ranting, or beating on something. Does anyone else get that way?
