What do you do for a living?

Lawyer. In-house corporate counsel for a national "home ownership business" (read, real estate, mortgage, insurance brokerage, etc.) I used to love it. Now, about the best I can say is it pays the bills and lets me have something of a life. Could be worse.

Before all this high-falutin' stuff, I was a technical analyst for a IT consultancy firm. Which mostly entailed going to other companies and pointing out what was wrong with their systems, working with the IT gurus to fix it and then translating guru-geek-speak into plain English for the business-folk. I miss the excuse to nit-pick and fix things, but I don't miss the stress!

I work part-time in the HR department of a small software startup, and I go to law school. I'm planning on becoming a law professor when I'm done with school, but I'll probably have to be a lawyer for a few years first.

I was an artist for my state! I was laid off, so I began working in Unemployment Insurance! I now consider myself a freelance cartoonist, screenwriter, actor, voiceover artist, and soldier of fortune. Basically, I'm retired!

I'm a production coordinator for a website that does adult-oriented online advertising. Basically, I'm responsible for all their photoshop and graphic design needs, and I build the banners and ads that go on the site. I also do a good chunk of their data entry and sourcing, and keep their legal noses clean by verifying that every advertiser provides model releases and IDs.

I really hate my job, for the inept management, the incompetently executed and often offensive source material I have to work with and the tedious, numbing nature of much of the work.

On the side, I do some photography, but the last time I was paid for a job was months ago so I don't know if I should even count it.

I'm part owner of a small software development/IT consulting company.

Our focus has been automotive manufacturing, and Toyota specifically. Unfortunately, with the overall downturn, and the impending closure of the NUMMI plant we're toast. So I'm currently researching possible future directions for the company or moving on and working for someone else.

Anyway, I'm currently a student working toward my second BA degree. Previously, I had worked in the animal husbandry field for about five years after getting a degree in Biology. I'm now working toward a degree in Secondary Education;Biology. After that, I'll go for my MA in Deaf Education.

Most of the time, I really like my job. I work for a non-profit membership organization representing farmers, and I have two job titles: media relations specialist (i.e., I am usually the first person reporters call if they need something, I write news releases, I coordinate media events and media training) and publications managing editor (I write/shoot for and edit our two publications, which are a quarterly glossy magazine and a 20-times-year newsletter, including overseeing the work of other staffers and freelancers).

In my "spare" time, I also shoot a lot of photos. I don't really consider myself a photographer, but I'm pretty good in that I can usually get the camera to show what I want it to show. I also do a bit of design for brochures and stuff like that. And I also do a fair amount of writing other than articles and news releases, such as letters to the editor and that kind of thing.

Basically, I spend a LOT of time writing.

Oh, and one of my unofficial titles is "grammar geek."

Currently unemployed, but my last job was teaching basic computer skills and running the department when the head cheese was away. Which was a lot.

I work for an academic center that studies the nonprofit sector. I primarily focus on our various international projects which are essentially statistical and comparative studies on the size, economic impact, distribution and role of the sector in general. My job itself is something of a catch-all and I do everything from drafting reports to editing books to designing publications to coordinating our Fellows program etc. The one thing I do not really get involved with is the data itself. I've only been here about a year, so the position is still evolving, but it's not bad.
