What do you do for a living?

Squiggy

FrozenToad
Admiral
Just do what the title says and no one gets hurt.

I'm a Senior Audio Engineer (sound guy) for a government run cable channel that no one watches.

I'm a Software Engineer for a company that makes health care industry-related software. Pharmacy retail systems and pharmacy benefit management systems, primarily.

It'd be interesting to include a poll; I'd love to see the field distribution among Trekkies.

I'm a Teaching Artist. There are two major goals in my job: 1. Improve literacy education in NYC public school students grades k-5 by teaching a specifically targeted literacy through the arts curriculum, and 2: Teach public school teachers how to integrate the arts (visual art, music, dance, and drama), into the classroom and still fulfill all their curriculum requirements. Our program has proved remarkably successful statistically. Not only do students who have had our program score statistically significantly higher on both objective and subjective literacy assessments, they continue to outscore their peers in the years following our program. We are proving that kids learn better when art is involved, and that the arts are not disposable subjects.

I am also an aspiring children's book illustrator. I've just submitted my first book. Here is some of my work! Though the page i just getting going.

I'm a civil engineer. Land development, public works, utilities, roads, environmental permitting, construction oversight.

I like how every project is a little different and that I get to get outside from time to time.

Research associate and PhD candidate in astrophysics. I work on statistical cosmology and large-scale structures of the universe.

The results of this thread could probably be graphed, once it gets big enough. :)

I suspect we'll see a lot of "Engineers," though!

I don't actually know. I go into an office building and dick around on the internet for a while.

Your work looks amazing!! It's so beautiful yet gritty at the same time.

I am a grad student right now, working on my Master's in Public History, planning on becoming an Archivist. I'm currently working part time as an office assistant at a state department unrelated to my career goals, and I'm the intern at the State Archives. Paid, thankfully.

I am the Drafting Department for a small industrial electronics company. I say I am the Drafting Department because, well I am. :D
it's a small place and I'm the only drafter (haven't figured out a fancy 'title' . . . just 'Drafter')
we make timing controls for tons of things: timers for pitching machines for baseball practice or batting cages, controls for pellet stoves for shop and home use, timers and coin counters for vending machines, controls for peristaltic pumps
I handle in-house documentation (assembly, product spec drawings etc)

As of yet, I still have to find my first job. Been looking for 2 years now and nothing.... Well least I have a 4-month temp job starting December doing office work at a petrol station.

I work at Baker's (a supermarket chain owned by Kroger) in Omaha. I do pretty much anything and everything *except* work the meat department. :p

I'm a partner in and the editorial director of a firm specializing in publishing, graphic design, public relations consulting, video production and Web development.
