What do you consider to be the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy?

I know there is no official Sequel Trilogy to Star Wars but what do you think comes closest to that in terms of Books or Comics etc?

A lot of people seem to like the Thrawn Trilogy, the Jedi Academy Trilogy and others like the 'Dark Empire' Comics.

It's been well over a decade since I read it, but I liked the Thrawn books a lot. They'd make fun movies. Thrawn himself was way cool.

Dark Empire was good. They'd make good movies too. But that shit was dark. Also I didn't like the art style very much.

If the Jedi Academy Trilogy is the one about the temple on Yavin 4 being converted into a Force-wielder community college and the Kessel Maw and the Death Star prototype and the Sun Destroyer and that overpowered kid, it was okay too, I suppose, but it's my least favorite of the three.

The Thrawn trilogy would make major box-office if ever turned into movies, and is pretty much the prototypical idea of what post-RotJ movies would look like.

It lacks a little bit of freshness, and anything approaching originality, but as marketeers know, all we want in sequels is to see our beloved characters in situations similar to, but not identical to what has gone on before. And the Thrawn books deliver the original trilogy 'feel' in spades. Supposedly Zahn listened to the original three Star Wars soundtracks on repeat while writing the books, and it really does feel like he captured the spirit of the original moves better than any of the subsequent expanded universe stuff.

Thrawn Trilogy and Dark Empire if it's about Luke.

Maybe something about a Sith resurgence if it's further down the timeline.

The Thrawn Trilogy is the most over rated series of books I have ever read.

They are mildly entertaining and competent stories, but not anywhere near as worthy as fandom makes them out to be.

I just find it funny that all all the Star Wars we have had since ROTJ came out in 1983 there still has been no official filmed sequel (trilogy or otherwise)

Nope, there are even more of us! :D

Add another! Just seemed like a rehashing of the films.

Rather that than the mess that Academy was - or any of the other novels post-ROTJ one could pick, IMO.

The Thrawn trilogy managed to both evoke the feeling of the original trilogy, and build upon its characters - not to mention adding others who have proved to be at least as memorable. If you feel that's a rehashing of the films, I'd say that's probably an indicator that Zahn did his job well.

And if he'd never written it (or failed to do as well as he clearly did, despite the naysayers!) then I highly doubt we would have seen the kind of resurgence of the franchise that we've "enjoyed" (prequels, I'm lookinatchoo)

I will concede that Thrawn himself was a little over-hyped, but personally I think a lot of the blame for that lies with subsequent novels that went out of their way to expand upon his and the Chiss Ascendancy's background... Like most other SW novels of the era, they just never should have happened. :p

I love the Thrawn Trilogy, but it's a military series with a smattering of Jedi action, so it's not thematically Star Wars. Jedi Academy is more in tone with the movies, but it's not the most amazing thing in the world.

I loved the Thrawn books, and would love to see movies based on them.

The Thrawn books.

I sort of agree with the criticisms of them, but really they are the best and most "Star Wars feeling" of all the novels. That's kind of back-handed praise because it speaks to the lesser quality of most licensed fiction.

I think if there are new Star Wars sequel movies some day they should be about all new characters. The current 6 movies basically cover the life of Anakin Skywalker.

Maybe start the next Trilogy with the birth of Luke and Mara Jade's or Han and Leia's children and go from birth to death in a new trilogy? I could see Mark Hamill coming back for more before Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher.

The Thrawn Trilogy along with Dark Empire. So many significant events take place IMO in these stories. I try and ignore Dark Empire II :)

In a lot of ways, Dark Empire is the true sequel story, since it's about Luke falling to the Dark Side and the return of the Emperor. Hell, even Fett is in it

I despise Dark Empire. Bringing back Paplatine really cheapened Vader's sacrifice in ROTJ.

The comic artwork was also horrid. :p

I agree about the artwork, not a fan of it either, but it did match the tone of the story and gave the story a grittiness, but it was pretty bad.

I think we've had this discussion before  I absolutely loved the Dark Empire art! I thought that guy was the perfect artist for Star Wars.
