What Do You Collect, TOS-Wise?

I put in a TOS bathroom in my man cave. My wife is really cool and this room is stylin'!

I'll post some pics if you guys want to see it.

Jim
So you don't actually have a bathroom, then? :p

Got the Art Asylum action figgers, phaser and comm.
From the old days I have tons of blueprints, fanzines and fantech publications.
And model kits up the wazoo.
Fanzines as in fan magazines, or fanfiction?

I started out collecting anything I could get my hands on. This was in 1975, and my collection started out very modestly, with the Blish books (#4 and #6). Now... I need another house. Really. 'Cause Star Trek led to Star Wars, which led to other stuff, and I kept on with books, comics, and then I discovered the wonderful world of Conventions Where You Can Get Even Neater Stuff.

I never got into the models, as I'm too clumsy to put stuff like that together. But I've got a nice assortment of action figures (the original 8" ones), the smaller ones from TMP, a TWOK deck of playing cards (everybody is clothed ;))... I tend to go for the more unusual items, like collectors' spoons. I've got two of the four I know about. I am still on the hunt for the early fanzines, though. I've got a reprinted set of Spockanalia! and a couple of issues of The Holmsian Federation. If anybody knows of a contact for In A Different Reality and any of the later Valjiir stories, I would greatly appreciate a PM.

Oh, and I also make Tribble lapel pins.

Fan magazines. Not a lot, but I picked up a bunch of them at an early con in the 70s.

I know what I'd LIKE to collect: a model of the Guardian of Forever, complete with swirling 3-d historical images swirling around inside...

The dvds and books mostly. More often books and things dating from the 70s. I still have my mego figures from when I was a kid! Sad, really.

Piffle. Just give me the REAL Guardian of Forever. I'll have history fixed up in no time. ;)

Mind you, I'm not sure if it'll fit in my back yard... how wide across is it, anyway? Do any of the reference books mention this?

One shelf in my wall unit in the living room:
I swore decades ago I would not stoop to the level of collecting Action Figures. I started last year. *sigh*

My favorite collectible to look at is the Master Replicas Enterprise though. (but then again, the original Enterprise is one of my most favorite "characters" of all trek-dom)

My most frustrating collectible is the MR Phaser. I have the Art Asylum one as well, but the Master Replicas Phaser looks, sounds, acts, and more importantly, feels like a real phaser. Therein lay the source of my frustration. No matter how I look at it, feel it, heft it, listen to it, adjust it... it still doesn't disintegrate the annoying people I point it at! Not to mention it seems to backfire occasionally. Everytime I set it to stun, and fire at my wife, I seem to get the worst of the deal!?

As for me, well.... I have a TOS type II phaser from the original series prop manufacturer. I also have a communicator from them too. I have the Art Asylum phaser and communicator too. I also have a Dr. McCoy hypospray with liquid tubes from the Prop manufacturer; picked it up at a convention back in the 80's. I cannot wait for the medical tricorder, this will really be cool with the hypospray. I also plan on picking up the science tricorder too. Other than that, A bunch of mini ships and far too many models to count nor display..

I've been collecting metal items lately: 70's era coins and beltbuckles.

Weird and funky retro stuff like that; reminds me of my childhood... ;)

I just joined this site, so I can't PM yet. But there is a Valjiir website, http://Valjiir.us which is run by two of the original authors. They've gained a third collaborator who writes and who also does incredible CGI artwork, and has created an enormous number of beautiful illos.

Warning, lots of adult content there.

It would be easier to list the TOS stuff I don't have, lol. My brother and I have one of the most extensive collections of classic Trek I'm aware of. Such a fun thing to have shared with him.

I love the Art Asylum figures - and you'll get to add Rand and Chapel to those beauties too. I'm hoping we can persuade them to produce more TMP figures to go with TOS and TWOK. I also got the TWOK Enterprise. Gotta love pushing them buttons.

I collect information and distill it into the things I want (models, plans, props, etc.). Other than that, not much.

I have a assortment of the Playmates figures. I got the TOS bridge crew boxed set for an absolute steal on ePay a while back ($12.00!!)
Other than that, the Japanese Furuta ships (much higher quality than the micro machines IMHO) are worth getting your hands on. And the new Johnny Lightning ships are great, too.

Aside from always making sure I have a full set of TOS episodes and the TOS movies, I'm afraid I'm a real slacker when it comes to collecting. I do notice I have an almost instinctive urge to collect images of Marianna Hill and Sherry Jackson, but I try not to let that get out of hand.

Assorted little doo-dads, but one day what i hope to have is that original domed lunchbox. Now THAT is a thing of beauty!

Wow, thank you, thank you, thank you... and a few more thousand thank-yous! :bolian:

I used to have a subscription to In A Different Reality, and corresponded occasionally with Marguerite Krause (the editor), and Cher Petterson of Alternaties. Sadly, I lost contact with them all back in the late '80s/early '90s, and it was so frustrating not to know how the various storylines came out - these folks planned for long-term, multi-generations!

To this day, I can't help but be thankful that Canadian Customs never looked inside of the Alternaties zines... some of those illustrations... um... probably wouldn't have made it into the country. :alienblush:

You're more than welcome :) I happen to be married to Cher, so I've been in on all the secrets for decades ...

Cher's got an email addy on the site. Feel free to email her!
