What do the Borg do when not assimilating people or destroying planets?

When the Borg are assimilating new technology and information, I wonder do they "upgrade" the old drones with new tech or just throw old ones away and build/assimilate new ones with the new technology.
^^Your post made me think of seeing Borg drones in their alcoves but instead of the "lightning pattern" above them we see the Windows Updates screen.
I would say they are upgraded as long as they respond to and assimilate the upgrades. And I wouldn't think older drones would have to worry much about the normal effects of aging, such as creaky knees, arthritis, declining eyesight and hearing -- they'd just have more implants as they got older. This makes me think the queen must be very old to be down to nothing but a head a shoulders and a spinal column, and with metal "bones" at that.
Borgs just wanna have fun.

Do you really think they'd pass Earth by if they arrived today? I mean like Picard said assimilate Earth in the past no resistance.
After watching the Kardashians on tv they will flee to the Delta quadrant.. Who wants to assimilate that!
People keep differentiating assimilation and scientific research, but for the Borg...assimilation IS research. They're not just grabbing bodies, they're grabbing the data in their victims' brains. Perhaps the Borg drones are even used as a kind of 'botnet', a neural computer processor. Their stated goal is 'perfection', so presumably as they encounter new technologies, or discover new ideas, they try to bring their current cubes and other systems up to date. Borg 'cities' could be in a cycle of never-ending renovation.
The Borg might want to assimilate Earth in the past because they knew what it'll become in the future... or something.
Well, no. If the Borg fear what Earth would become, they would just bombard the planet from orbit as opposed to assimilating a technology primitive race which won't contribute to perfection.
But iphones........ The borg would love the latest iphones.
Or rather than go back to 2063 A.D go back to 20,063 B.C and destroy all the stone age folks
What do you think would be the reason... Why would they want to travel back in time and assimilate Earth of 2063.
There's no reason to. Earth and humanity have no desirable technology at that point. They're only a day away from achieving warp capability, and we know there are warp capable races that the Borg consider too primitive to assimilate. So why would they bother primitive Earth? This really is a huge plot hole in First Contact.
Because Cochrane's flight leads to the future which Picard is part of and Starfleet. If you prevent all that from happening well you win.... It's not a plot hole.
But they can still do that by destroying Cochrane's silo, which is what they started with anyway. There's no need to assimilate the planet at that point.
They were just making sure history went their way.... but it did not.
