What do kids think about TOS remastered?

Cheapjack

Fleet Captain
Has anyone here spoken to anyone under 18 who has seen the remastered TOS?

Do they say it is good, and the short-back-and-sides and papier-mache sets don't matter, as the exterior CGI is so good?

What do they think?

My youngest son (who was 14 when the remastered episodes started airing) likes them, and they got him interested in Star Trek. Before that he really didn't give the show a fair chance and it was, I know, only because of the visual effects. You know, he grew up on CGI effects, so that's his "standard".

We watched the remastered version of "The Doomsday Machine" together; then, for fun, I popped in the original version. He rolled his eyes and laughed at the rear-view shots of the Constellation (the AMT model customized with the flick of a Bic).

So if the remastered version gets more people interested in Star Trek, I don't see how that's a bad thing.

I haven't seen much of them (i do not own them as of yet)...have seen bits and pieces on Youtube. I personally am not thrilled with the idea of re-doing the special effects (to me, its akin to colorizing classic old movies)..

but i've never given any thought to how it might help bring in younger viewers who are use to CGI effects....

so, i have to say Hambone, i agree with you. If the remastered versions attract younger viewers to TOS, it is a good thing! *chuckle* I never thought i would say that!

My kids run fleeing from the room anytime I put on modern Trek (TNG, Voyager or Enterprise). But if it's TOS (remastered or otherwise), they stick around. They call that the "good Star Trek"...

They did like the Abrams film though...

But if I tell them I am going to watch Trek on DVD they always ask -- "which one? The good one or the bad ones?"

:lol::lol::lol:

"Short-back-and-sides?" What does this mean? I've only ever heard this term referring to a haircut.

9 and 7...they like Lost in Space and Ultraman and Godzilla too. Hey, if you're gonna hang with Daddy Quasar, you have to learn to love the classics...

My 10 year old Son recently saw 2001: A Space Odyssey, so he knows what FX could do even in 1968. Before I got the remastered Trek, we watched several OS eps from the Time Travel Collection, and he asked me why, if Star Trek was SO good otherwise, couldn't they spend the money needed to get the FX done right?:wtf:
Needless to say, he loves the remastered ones (But he didn't like "Way To Eden", he said the songs were good, but Adam ending up dead was too sad).

Daddy Chrisisall also force-fed Sonisall Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea (only season 2). He LOVED the Flying Sub. It was the best character.

That's great. I'm all for early indoctrination! ;)
Indeedy! Check out what we finished last night:

That was fun. And it looks more accurate than the AMT kit used in the original FX shots for Doomsday Machine!;)

I think it was the opening credits to a second-season episode, but I don't remember which. I just remember pausing the DVD and getting the camera to snap a pic of her in front of the image.

She digs the animateds, too. :)

WOW! That looks great. I totally love how you are sharing Trek with your kids. It's really awesome!

My oldest (all of 3) digs "Cappin' Kirk," remastered or no.....

Yeah, but be warned: You end up with kids that few other kids can relate to on a pop-culture level...

Of course...that COULD be interpreted as a good thing...

My kids don't like Hanna Montana, but they do like Captain Kirk, Godzilla and Ultraman...and the Lost in Space robot.

Hey, cool model, here are mine!

When I have kids I think they will appreciate these, as well as the remasted TOS.
