what do I need to surf wirelessly?

Rÿcher

Fleet Captain
I have a Wii and an Ipod Touch and my computer has one of them cards inside where it looks as if I can hook up an antenna. It's a brass coax male/female screw to thing with threads on it (I could never get male/female straight with cables). Anyway, I want to know if just having the card and the antenna will give me wifi or if I need a router of some kind.

Here's what my device manager says:

I believe you need a router. The Epxress Card you have pictured there allows your computer to recieve the wi-fi signals. You still need something to take that internet signal from your internet-cable and "broadcast" it out. That's what the wi-fi router is for.

I believe that there are USB dongles that you can get which will actually transmit wi-fi to other devices so long as you have an internet connection already. However, the speed would probably be terrible on them and you would need to have the PC on all the time. It is better to get a good wireless router.

You need to purchase a wireless router. No worries, you can pick up a completely decent router for around US$30
