In the simplest terms possible:

Casino Royale works.

Quantum of Solace doesn't!

I think that says it all. Casino Royale went in a new direction with an edgier Bond and no gadgets but it still felt like a Bond movie and it still worked. Quatum of Solace felt like a (mediocre) movie that just happened to have James Bond in it.

If TPTB are really happy with the non-effort they put out with this film, thie franchise is in a lot of trouble.
I agree with you guys, 100%.

As for me, skip the gadgets for Daniel Craig's 007, but go back to that route with his successor.

It is inevitable it is going to return to Q, Moneypenny, and gadgets down the road due to them being classic Bond staples.

Then the next one should have his successor

License Revoked is another title that technically has not been used

License to Kill was originally called License Revoked. Either title would work for me.

While I'm fine with the series new direction, I really miss the light-heartedness of the Sean Connery films. Nitty-gritty can get old pretty quick. QOS just seems like another Bourne film to me with less story.

Regarding Bond's popularity after DIE ANOTHER DAY, I think while the Brosnan films were financially sucessful, with the exception of GOLDENEYE they were not critically well-received. The trouble with Brosnan is similar to that of Dalton-he was good for the part but the scripts just didn't work out.

Bond did have a sort of true love in the earlier continuity, as well-Tracy, his wife from ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE who is referenced here and there in the later films.

What do you mean, Goldeneye did well. Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day all were successful

Though The World Is Not Enough should have made the most (it is the best Brsonan Bond film and best Bond film to date, my opinion), it should have made well over $200 Million domestically.

The World Is Not Enough has the best gun barrel opening, that echoey sound is awesome. It has the best opening (chase scene) of them all. It has the best Bond theme arrangement of them all. The World Is Not Enough has the best stunts, action scenes and music overall

Wrong & wrong, more specifically, TOTALLY WRONG (cr) and flat-out wrong (QOS)

Except for the Craig casting, QOS is the best Bond in nearly 20 years (not saying all that much except that 90s bond oftensucked.)

I found The World is Not Enough to be very boring outside of the first ten minutes and the super-hot Bond girl who wasn't Denise Richards.

But it was the first Bond film to gross over $100 million in the United States and then Die Another Day grossed even more. So the Bronson films were financial successes even though many of them were not well-liked by the critics.

The consensus is the opposite, actually:

While fans are divided on whether or not Daniel Craig was good as Bond in Casino Royale (One of my top 5 favorite James Bond films.), most people who have seen this film agree that it is a superior 007 outing.

Quantum of Solace, on the otherhand, is a polarizing film that has its fans and its detractors (More detractors, actually.). But, one thing is clear: If anything, even if you ended up not enjoying this film, the only thing good about it was clearly Daniel Craig's presence and performance as James Bond.

I will agree that the writing in this movie seems weak and maybe hurried, and maybe the film suffered for it. But Daniel Craig makes the movie so much better and he has turned out to be the perfect Bond. I think anyone that has seen his first two outings would agree with that. Even if you didn't like QOS.

I know QOS has it's weak points, but I am a fan of it. It's a decent Bond film. It's not near as bad as some of the Moore or later Connery Bond films that also didn't have a real plot and were filled with more camp.

That's completely false 90's Bond is some of the best, the best being The World Is Not Enough, the best Bond film to date.

You can continue to enjoy your two newer Bourne films, oops I mean Bond films

TWINE is okay but it's not near as good as Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger or Casino Royale which would be my top 4. It's not near the best Brosnan Bond film and not up to Dalton's Bond films either. TWINE had the worst conceived Bond girl ever, but I did like the vilainess in the movie. The best Brosnan Bond was probably TND. It's plot was a little lacking, but a kick ass Bond girl and great action scenes made up for it.

I like Electra and consider her the official Bond girl in The World Is Not Enough even though she is the villain. Michelle Yeoh was great in Tomorrow Never Dies

I read a few days ago on CommanderBond that they plan to bring gadgets back in the next film.

They're not going to go all out on them, but basic things that could be real.

They should keep doing what they're doing. Both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace were excellent. Daniel Craig and Judi Dench are excellent. There's no need for EON to panic and start screwing things up again. They've got a very good thing going right now.

Well, get a more experienced action director and a more detailed script next time along with this tone.

They got lucky this time at the box-office (Due to the superior Casino Royale), eventhough the audience is divided on whether they like this film or not.

However, for the 3rd Daniel Craig Bond outing if the Broccolis follow this same route, you can bet fans like myself who disliked this one won't ever be back as long as Craig is 007.
