What did you *give* for Christmas/Hanukkah/Holidays?

the game Set

The ancient Egyptian game? I had that when I was about 10 (which was when the Tutankhamun exhibit came to the Royal Ontario Museum, and ancient Egypt was all the rage).
Nope. It's actually this.
It's a fantastic game of visual perception, and it's fascinating mathematically. It's great fun in groups of all different sizes, and sometimes I even like to play solitaire -- timing my speed through the deck.

Ah, cool. :)

And I was misremembering - the Egyptian game I was thinking of is Senet.

To Mom: a soft blue robe that's warm and snuggly and a 2009 kitty calendar.
To Dad: a BIG remote control so he will not loose his smaller one ever! And Sgt. Bilko DVD :)

I gave my Mom, Sister, Apprentice (I was mentor for a student at the College) and Girlfriend each one of the Open Heart necklaces that Kay Jewelers had for sale. I paid my mother's tuition for a class that she is planning to take, and my father asked that we not get him anything. I bought him a new GPS though.

To my mom:

She doesn't celebrate holidays so I'll grace her with the gift of my presence this weekend. :p

To my boyfriend:
A book on the rise of Japanese arcade culture in the US
The complete Cowboy Bebop soundtrack (currently languishing in USPS purgatory)
BSG season 4.0 on pre-order

To my boyfriend's grandmother/salvation:
A big basket of fine yarn. She's an avid knitter.

To my friend who took me under her wing when I moved here:
An ottoman especially designed to store video games and controllers

To my RL BBS friends:
Shhhh...they're reading this and I still have to give them their gift!

To one virtual-only BBS friend:
A print rez copy of one of my photos he took shine to earlier this year

To my other acquaintances:
Booze and tons of it!

I remember doing a report on that in 9th grade!

I gave RJDrummerBoy herpes.

But it was totally an accident. I swear.
Did you keep the receipt? :(

Somewhere I have a set of ancient games that I got from-- hm, I don't know-- QPBC or SFBC or maybe SABC. I've been interested in the games of ancient cultures since the first time I saw The Ten Commandments; I should check around to see if there are any encompassing books on the subject.

I gave my very soul.

That's what my mother always used to say before launching into a lament... :D
We must have sung 20 hymns at the Lutheran church on Christmas Eve. I was almost unable to walk down the steps from the choir loft. Christmas hymns are not very difficult to pedal, but all the pedal work for 20+ hymns plus all the fancy "special" music just took it's toll on me. Then I had to turn around and play at my own church Christmas morning.

I feel like I gave my soul.

Sounds more like you gave your soles. :D

Dad- A bike computer
Mom- Lost Season 4 (a holiday regular)
Brother- Star Wars Clone Wars movie
Sister- First two Twilight books

And pulled out all the stops. :p

(sorry, bad organ humor, and I'm sure he's heard it before!)

That's the key to doing a good job - take note.

The key to this thread is to do the bare minim-um of harm before someone notifies the moderato. That goes treble for bad music puns - which aren't really my forte, sadly, as they have a tendency to fall flat on its Bach.

But what an immense organ. :bolian:

To my three sisters: Personalized ornaments for their trees. Excerpts from my Dave Barry-style memoirs. Mostly the stories that involved them and me as children.

To my niece: A brand new song just for her called "For You, I Wish".

To me: One day without pressure.

Happy New Year to all.
