What did you *give* for Christmas/Hanukkah/Holidays?

I gave my Mum a personalised notebook. It has a photo of my late father on the cover, my Mum's name printed on the cover and a message from me printed inside the front cover.

I gave my eldest son Daniel some money (he hadn't contacted us for a while and I had no idea if he was going to turn up for Xmas or not which is why I didn't actually buy him anything).

I gave my second son Adam a book about General Montgomery as he loves to read about WWII

I gave my friend Dianne a gift card from the cinema and a box of chocolates, and I gave exactly the same to my friend Tania.

Adam shares a house with a friend and she has two children so I bought the little girl two finger puppets and a little rubber duck, I bought the little boy a big, huge hairy spider toy and a little rubber duck. These chicken like playing with my rubber ducks when they visit my home.

I gave my youngest son Marcus this rhino

for those of you reading: invest in an emergency fund
3 years ago I started a second checking account
I put in about 5-10% of my earnings into this account.
It is there for emergencies and if things look good and there is enough it is my vacation fund.
Just getting away from a few days can get you through a tough year.
If you have credit card debt, stop spending. Quit buying things. I am talking about dvds, cds etc...
If you want music go to playlist.com and start your own list of music as it is "free.."
DVDs what is the point? take that money and pay off your debt.
You will feel better debt free.
Stop the soda and the fancy bottled water. Tap water is no different.
Drink hot tea, water.

BTW I am too poor to be in debt. I don't have a high enough income to qualify for a credit card :)

Mom: A year's membership to Club Pogo (the online gaming site). She was really excited about it!

Two youngest sisters: Some various bath items, paint by numbers, and coloring posters.

Other sister: Bath stuff, coloring poster, and an indoor light string with roses on it that she can hang in her room.

Dad: The Office DVD game.

Boyfriend: A t-shirt that says "A Series of Tubes" with various tubes on the front, :D. A book called The Hungry Scientist with various kitchen experiments in it. The Periodic Table of Elements fridge magnets. A carnivorous plant set (a little pot to plant Venus Fly Trap, etc. in).

I think that's it!
 
I didn't buy anybody anything, since I'm "freezing" my finances for the moment. My parents said my presence for two months is good enough. At least I did pick out the toys for my nephews. I figured a 9 and 7 year old boys would enjoy Star Wars crossover transformer toys.

I only give gifts to my mother, niece and nephew; everybody else gets a donation to Save The children. I give my niece and nephew each a grab bag of goodies, and a third grab bag that is for the both of them. So:

My mother:
The Presidents DVD collection from History Channel.
An "edgeless" Brownie pan (I hope to reap some benefits from that one).
A sculpted metal welcome sign for the yard with a couple of Frogs on it.

Niece:
A Crayola art program for the computer.
Josie And The Pussycats DVD.
The Essential Spider-Woman.
A "Make-Your-Own-Monster" Puppet kit.
A book about woman astronauts.

Nephew:
Crazy Machines, a computer program.
A DVD collection of DC superheroes from the 60s.
The Essential Ghost Rider.
A Chain Chomp Plush Doll (from Mario Kart).
A book about the American Revolution.

Both:
A "Make-Your-Own-Opoly" Game.
The Star Trek Cartoon DVD.
A book of Hubble pictures.
 
It was tough this year because of my tight budget, but I really hit up the sales.

For my older sister and her husband: WALL-E on DVD.

For my younger sister: A fabulous coffee mug -- red with drag-queen boots all around it, filled with ginger chews and fancy teas.

For dad: A beautiful, soft blue sweater -- the same grey-blue as his eyes, and a bag of his favorite candies, non-pareils.

For mom: my little sister, dad, and I went in on what she really wanted, a Nintendo DS and "Brain Age": she was so happy she cried!

For grandmother: Barack Obama's book, The Audacity of Hope.

We also do Secret Santa for stockings, and I got my brother-in-law. with a $50 limit I got him:

A $28 beanie for $7
$25 ear muffs for $8
the game Set
earphone extenders (he wanted them)
a $10 Starbucks card
Sour Patch Kids
and 3 boxes of his favorite, Jelly Bellies.

We must have sung 20 hymns at the Lutheran church on Christmas Eve. I was almost unable to walk down the steps from the choir loft. Christmas hymns are not very difficult to pedal, but all the pedal work for 20+ hymns plus all the fancy "special" music just took it's toll on me. Then I had to turn around and play at my own church Christmas morning.

I feel like I gave my soul.

A "tornado" kit and Tornando Movie from Discovery Channel

My husband's nephews:
an MP3 player and a board game

My husband's crazy-ass sister and husband:
a Target gift card and a large jar of assorted nuts (because you are what you eat)

My loser-sister's boyfriend:
a dark green sweater

Loser-sister's boyfriend's son:
Magnetic-motor toy cars

My husband:
a GURPS Martial Arts book and Robot Chicken T-shirt

Hubby's boss's wife:
a touchmaster game for her DS.
 
Mom and dad: both got a 30 year anniversay Oilers shirt. Mom's was the womens version and more sparkely.

Cousin: Sharpie pens and an oilers shirt. She has a sharpie fetish and wanted pens. O.o Weirdo.

Her little sister (now 2 years old and cute as hell): A really REALLY cute oilers stuffed monkey. And those Mr. Sketch Markers that i think her parents and my parents spend more time smelling than she did drawing :lol: Or so I was told.

My grandma: A new teapot to replace her ancient one. She's kind of resistance to change. Especially if it doesnt match anything in the kitchen set my mom had bought her one year with her babysitting money :lol: And some mint tea to go with it.

I also picked up a few things for a certain someone but it's still sitting on my floor.

And i need to pick up something else for another one of my friends who Ill be seeing on new years.

Other than that, it's been a quiet christmas, and small. Im not exactly rich and still have to think of school books and tuition.

The ancient Egyptian game? I had that when I was about 10 (which was when the Tutankhamun exhibit came to the Royal Ontario Museum, and ancient Egypt was all the rage).

Let's see, I got:

- mother: a rather fluffy turtleneck sweater, a copy of the novel "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" (I know she watches the TV show, but she doesn't have a DVD player that I know of, so there was no point in getting her the box set), a tiger's-eye bracelet, and a calendar

- father: a down-filled vest, the omnibus edition of "Valor's Choice" and "The Better Part Of Valor" by Tanya Huff (I'm a character in the latter :D), and a calendar

- boyfriend: all four volumes of "Absolute Sandman" by Neil Gaiman and a necklace - it's a button painted with the word "Serenity" on a leather necklace, and was actually made by a friend of mine

My best friend never did get around to coming over last year to collect the gifts I got for him, his wife and their two children, so I didn't get them anything new this year. He just better come over and pick it up before next Christmas. (He lives in another town east of Toronto, but he works in downtown Toronto and since I don't drive, it's easiest if he comes over.) I'll be damned if I can remember what I got them, though. :o

I really ought to start keeping lists of what I've bought for people from year to year. I can never remember what books I've bought for my parents. For all I know, I bought them those same books last year.
 
Father - A new housecoat.
Mother - An electronic digital picture frame.
Brother - The latest Mario Kart game for the DS.
Sister in Law - $45 Gift Cetificate to A&F.
Niece - 200pc Crayola Art Kit (markers, crayons, colored pencils.)
