What did Picard have to say about being a capatain?

Huh?

You mean, did the characters ever comment in the series on what it was like to be a captain?
Or do you mean what did the actors feel about portraying captains on Star Trek? Because the actor is called Patrick Stewart, not Jean Luc Picard.

Sir Patrick Stewart thought he was mis-cast I read somewhere. But seeing as how the producers liked him, and it's a job, he accepted it. I think he designed a new generation of "Starship captain." Riker does all the skirt-chasing and daring-do while Picard directs and supervises. He wouldn't have been complete without his "Number One" [Dad. He's my number one dad!"], but the crew would've been up a tree without Picard.

I was confused, until I remembered that yesterday was St Patrick's Day. I think that explains the OP. ;)

In universe, Picard told Riker there was no substitute for having your own ship, no matter how small it was.

As far as Sir Patrick goes, I couldn't begin to tell you. I guess he was glad he didn't get the Neelix treatment and have to sit through 2 hours of makeup every day.

Although it's funny to imagine how they could have miscast Stewart even more by making him the goofy alien comic relief. Imagine if, instead of being the captain, they brought him on to play the Ferengi comm officer or something like that.

I wasn't drunk - I was rushed.

What did the character of Picard mean about what we expect in a protagonist captain? How was he different from his predecessors and successors, and how do you feel about it? Television shows are products of their time and yet still timeless - as I think are real people.

What do our captains say about us and what we want? Picard, Kirk, Sisko, etc. What do other characters - Spock vs. Data vs. Odo, the Doctor, Phlox? Uhura, Troi, Jadzia, Kes, Seven, T'Pol, nUhura? Personal observation too - not only broad social/demographic ones.

I'll post more later, as my computer's occupied and I'm writing this from my phone!

Your basically asking for a character analysis of every character on star trek...

So to sum it up...

DS9>TOS>TNG
Sisko<Kirk<Picard
