What Became of Nimbus III/The Planet of Galactic Peace?

Eh, I was just quoting what they had created as the history of Nimbus III. It doesn't really matter to me either way.
He did a superb job. I'm a fan of STV, so I'm fine with the whole movie itself, though I do acknowledge that a lot of things went wrong. Still, it feels like it has the most heart, out of all the original films.
Lawrenece Luckinbill was definitely a high point of TFF. I thought he did a great job as Sybok. He was convincing.
Did you know that the role was initially offered (or intended, rather) for Sean Connery? But he was busy doing Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade at that time, I think. So the planet, Sha Ka Ree was named in his honor.
As for NimbuS III, Muad'dib and his Fremen brought spice production to a stand still.....oops...wrong planet.

Actually, that would have been cool, but Luckenbill did a really good job, too bad to have Connery would replace one of the better actors in the movie.
And, you know, I always thought the grass is green and the girls are pretty in Paradise City, but I think they must have filmed somewhere else.

You know I used to think that TFF got screwed by the big wigs, but then I found out that TFF had a bigger budget than TVH.
I don't know, I think a lot of things went wrong, particularly with the location shooting.
I don't think it was all on Bill Shatner or anything. He seemed to be going for something very epic, very large in scope but his eyes were bigger than Paramount's stomach, if you know what I mean, and so a lot of the details Shatner felt would make this special were chopped left and right.
I like TFF, but for me its main flaws were:
1) I think Bran Ferren's special effects probably did more to hurt the movie than anything else.
2) The forced humor. Clearly, the mega success of The Voyage Home lulled a few key people into a false sense of security: Well, TVH made millions and it was funny, so let's make TFF funny too. The problem, of course, is that TVH was funny due to "fish out of water" scenarios. In TFF, the humor is infamously slapstick, which doesn't really belong in the film.
The movie had other problems, such as that Shatner himself has said he was so focused on directing the film that he had trouble focusing on his acting. You can tell he's a bit off, speeding through many of his lines. I don't think this is that problematic, but I always noticed it.
But ultimately, I think Ferren and the forced humor did more to hurt the film than anything Shatner/Bennett did.

The thing I remember about TFF is that the other actors (the ones that normally seem to hate his guts, like Takei, Koenig and Doohan) all said that working with Shatner as a director was totally different than being his costar. They all praised Shat as a director - said he was completely professional and dedicated and there was none of the baggage associated with being a fellow ACTOR with him.
James Doohan blasted Shatner however. At a Star Trek convention in Little Rock, AR, Doohan said he despised what Shatner did with Scotty in TFF. Having Scotty bump his head on an overhead pipe, he said, was bogus. Even if the ship was brand new, Scotty would know his way around engineering, Doohan cited.
He also had said he didn't care for the humor in TFF...for the very reasons that EnriqueH (and I, and others in past posts) have cited about it...that Trek IV was "fish out of water", and TFF was forced...blatant attempts at comedy.
Doohan also said that Star Trek VI was going to be a very dark movie (like II) with little humor in it at all....and yet, years after his pronouncement, there were quite a few funny scenes in the end result.

Yeah....some interesting stories among the cast about their dealings with Der Shat.
Takei was a cool cat. Very personable. I got to personally escort both him and Marina Sirtis at a Trek convention one year. Good times.

I don't understand the physical location of Nimbus. Was it in the Klingon neutral zone, was it in the Romulan neutral zone?
If you look at the space chart from memory alpha it shows the Nimbus system surrounded planets mentioned both in TOS and TNG as plot destinations.
After the dismantling of the Klingon neutral zone did the former volume of space become unclaimed? I always thought that such arrangement were from territory ceded by two powers that physically bordered each other.

If one used the old star charts of the 1970s or 1980s, there would probably be a region where the three powers roughly touched each other, or an area of space unclaimed between their three spheres of influence.
The FASA version of the Star Trek Roleplaying Game called this area "The Triangle". I would assume Nimbus III would be there, in neutral space between the three powers.

^ That would make sense, except the movie mentioned a few times that Nimbus was in the "Neutral Zone"... it just didn't mention which one.
I would guess the Klingon Neutral Zone, though, since IIRC both the Federation and the Romulan were prohibited from entering the RNZ, but it seems that entering the Klingon Neutral Zone is allowed. (Also, both the Klingons and the Federation arrived at Nimbus to respond to the hostage taking before any Romulan ship showed up... even though one presumably just dropped Dar off recently?)

There may be a special provision that allows Nimbus III to be the only planet in the Neutral Zone where Federation, Klingon, and Romulans can meet. It could be strategically unimportant to all three (a hind corner to nowhere).
