We're thirty minutes behind you!

My local theater's showing an early set of shows, as they often do the day before an official release, but I'm debating if it's worth trying to see it at 7 PM or whether they'll already have a huge crowd. :p

I'm actually relieved my eight-year old wanted to see it with us. It gave me and the wife a reason to not go tonight.

We're getting old!

I could probably do a midnight showing of the movie if the opening crowds weren't going to be insane, but with my sleep habits being what they are and at my age I can't guarantee I wouldn't have my moments sitting in a darkened theater in the middle of the night.

Thats why I'm going to the 10am screening on Friday. Just to damn old and I have young children. Those two things just don't mix well. So no midnight screenings for me anymore.

I was going to wait a week or so, but I was bored last night and there were a few seats available at a new theater in my town. Only 3D showings, though. I wish I had seen it in 2D instead. Some of the graphics seemed to "flutter" too much in the action scenes in 3D, like rapidly blinking in and out of existence. I think being right up in the second row didn't help, but the only other available seats were even worse!

It's going to be 2D showings for me. I'm not paying extra for gimmicky 3D glasses I don't get to keep and to see an effect that doesn't impress me nearly enough to justify the bigger ticket prices.

As far as I know, you can keep the 3D glasses they give you, if you want to. I used to do that until I realized that the glasses are exactly the same at every 3D movie, so it's not like I need to bring my own back to the theater to use again. And I was starting to accumulate a pile of identical 3D glasses at home...

But the theater I went to had Star Wars tie-in 3D glasses for sale for $5 each, so I got one with a BB-8 design. It's now on display in my living room.

That shows how often I think about watching a film in 3D. I didn't know theaters let you keep them. Oh well. That's nice to know for future reference. Thanks!

The IMAX glasses are bigger. I like those. And yeah, you can keep them if you want.

I thought that I'd only see this once but I enjoyed it enough to want to see it again, in 2D this time. Don't know when I'll go though.

I'm looking forward to being off in a few days so I can see it. I'd like to think that even though it's the holidays and it's Star Wars, the theater won't be super crowded in the midweek.

* crosses fingers * :rommie:

How am I going to see it?

Your mama’s going on a date. You dig that? A date. Like the nice restaurants and a good movie. Dig that? She’s going with me, she’s going to have a good time, can you dig that?

I highly recommend the 3D. There is one scene with...

a full screen star destroyer parked right freakin' above you

...that was definitely worth the difference in price as far as I was concerned. :D

That shot was pretty cool. But, to me, it wasn't enough to compensate for the significantly darker 3D image and lack of clarity of 3D images during action scenes. Visually speaking, the 2D presentation (at the small, local, non-stadium seating, family-owned theater) was superior to the 3D presentation at the big-chain, reserved-seating theater (for me, at any rate).

I guess I was lucky enough to see it at a theater that knows to raise the brightness on their 3D showings to compensate for the glasses. They're kind of slack in some other ways, but they get that right.

My plan was to wait a couple of weeks until the opening night crowds had died down, then vist my usual out-of-town theater. A small local theater (one screen) managed to get a copy, though, so I decided to see it with a comparatively small local crowd this weekend instead of having to dodge spoilers for several weeks.

I saw it this afternoon with two close friends. All I can say is (and to spare posting a lengthy review in this thread):

The magic is back.

I loved it.

I saw it in IMAX 3D, RPX 3D and RPX 2D and without a doubt the IMAX 3D and RPX 3D were the better showings. I've heard of people complaining of "darker" showings with 3D but I've never experienced that. Ours was crisp, clear and very bright. I love 3D, I try to see everything I can in 3D. I love the depth of field usage, when they get it right, it's a beauty to behold. You don't need things stick out at you, just good depth of field. However with that said, the Star Destroyer hanging just in front of you. In IMAX 3D was glorious, my favorite 3D shot.

Instead of Friday, I convinced my mom to go see it this afternoon. She thought it was pretty good, but I loved it.

I may try to see it again tomorrow, even if it's Christmas Eve and the local theaters might be closing a little early because of the Holiday.
