No way. If this is unorthodox, I'm 100% aboard.
I’d love it, but without the decades of name recognition it would at be much higher risk if not grabbing enough of an audience fast enough. Could work anyway, and creatively it would be my preference, but it’s a risk.
Almost no one is watching Trek now.
Don't see how a year of this could be more expensive a failure than SFA. Substantial risk, possible big payoff.

TMP is such a heartless film, almost completely divorced from that which turned Star Trek into a classic pillar of global popular culture.
Star Trek: The Motion Picture's biggest problem, for me, is that it's about the characters reconnecting and regaining their camaraderie. So for a lot of the film they feel cold and out of character, and it's missing a big part of what made the TV series appealing.
I love how seriously it takes the technical side of space travel though, that bit worked.

I love that Kirk, Spock, McCoy didn’t stay static between TOS and TMP. I love the small bits we get of that time. I love V’ger. I love the journey it was on and how it intertwined with Spock’ journey. I love the deliberate pace of it all. I love Jerry Goldsmith’s score.

You gotta hand it to TMP and TWOK for both front-lining that characters are at their most interesting when they change through the years. Watching the same characters in the same situations over and over and over again can be a slog.
Yet that’s precisely what I like the most about it!

Wait until I tell you Picard season 2 is the best of its seasons. Followed very very very closely by season 1.
