^ Like I said, I drive a Subaru Legacy - for anyone that cares, it's an ancient 1998 GT-B with 276 four wheel drive ponies - but either New Zealand ponies are a lot less hungry than Swedish ones, or I don't drive like a complete retard, not sure which one it is...
Sorry, mate. I mixed up your posts. I meant to ask what ed629 drives. You wrote it earlier. But I can tell you this, the GT-B model has one of the hungriest engines even manufactured by subaru. And that's saying a lot.
And for the record, don't you dare call you 1998 Subaru ancient, laddy. My 1991 Merc has a lot of years left in it. And you're gonna hurt her feelings.
Btw, i have a hundred more ponies and its a cosworth engine. That explains the difference in fuel consumption.
Exactly, the US is huge, you can't drive across it in an hour and a half. And in a lot of places, mass transit doesn't exist.

BTW, I drive about 300 miles a week with a 17MPG SUV. However, I only paid $2000 for it about 4 years ago. I'd like a newer more efficient car, but the big question is whether I'm going to pay more in gas or in car payments.
That, and the bus system around here sucks so much. I had to fill up over the weekend for 4.35 a gallon (Only did $38 worth so about 3/4 of a tank) and I thank god right now I don't drive very much. If I did have to commute, I probably would be taking public transit.
I saw regular being $4.45 a Gallon yesterday. Unreal.

Yesterday night i filled up the car, 66 litre (17,43 gallons) tank and paid 1,69 Euro/litre, i.e. $6.43 per gallon.
All total over 108 Euro, i.e. $104.5
I need to find either better paid work or something closer to home.. i drive about 70km each day to and back from work.

It was up at $3.99(9) -- basically round it up and it would have been $4 a gallon. Now it's back down to $3.94(9) ($3.95) a gallon. Not much better, but an improvement.
@ FPAlpha: Pricewise, maybe... but in terms of infrastructure, not so much. The roads in the US are made for cars and trucks... as in it can take miles and miles to get from place to place. Not good for those who only have one car, or who walk to work and such.
It's just not a very pedestrian friendly country. Only kinds of transportation are cabs, buses, trains and that kind of thing.
And cab and bus faires end up costing even more, and they add onto the already high cost of driving overall. So it's pretty depressing.
The prices themselves may not be that high, but they're higher than they used to be. Heck I remember when they were in the 80 something cent range... so higher $3 dollar to $4 dollar a gallon is somewhat of a sticker shock.
Not to mention there will be a lot less people driving, only the really rich will be able to afford driving at the pace that people are going at now. People will have to decide between getting gas for their vehicles, getting food for the table, paying bills or getting any medications that they need.
It's starting to come to that point, sadly.

Gas was roughly $4.39/gallon for regular unleaded on Friday at the Mobil on Sunset and Franklin. Haven't been back since, but I've no doubt it's been increased since then.

Congratulations, man! I hope the new gig is successful for you. Does their bar and grill have an awful lot of customers? Will it be a stressful position? I hope not.
It's one of the busiest bars in the area. It's actually annoying sometimes as a customer because it's way too crowded. They've been brewing their own beer for 15-20 years and win awards every years for some of their brews. They distribute kegs to local (and some less local) restaurants, and their demand has grown greater than they are able to supply at the current location, hence the new facility.
So yeah...it'll be a good gig. And yes, it will be stressful, and my hours will be all over the place, but that's just the way things go in the restaurant industry.

The price for regular unleaded stands at $3.87 a gallon, up about five cents since my last report.
$4/gallon in Phoenix, AZ yesterday.
$3.59 a gallon in St. Louis today.
