Hey let's have a thread of epic space battles. The more crazy the merrier..

Found this one on youtube it's an old favourite of mine and never gets old. Always puts a smile on my face.

BTW lots of music from different sources including Crysis

It was lovley seeing the Big E fight off the Cylons. It wasn't even a fair fight. Yes I know this was a fan made video but it's so awesome.

Seriously...come on. You know this doesn't belong in Misc. We have an entire scifi & fantasy forum for this.

Starting from around 2:15. This blew me away when I was a kid. Not so great now, but still - hand-drawn spaceships: you can't beat 'em.

One of my favourite ship to ship battles is still Balance of Terror. Barely any special effects (by modern standards) just several dumper trucks worth of tension.

For classical battles it's Reliant vs. Enterprise in Star Trek 2.. it feels like a submarine battle and tense like hell.

For all out balls to wall battles nothing beats Star Wars, especially the Battle over Endor. BSG also had some very good battles though many times it usually only consisted of the Galactica sitting there, taking fire and dishing it out while the Vipers engage in the action oriented dogfights (still, i believe it's pretty realistic for capital ships to fight like this).

The Battle for Endor is certainly a great space battle, esp. given the tech they had at the time. I would say it looks better than the Battle of Courscant from ROTS despite the decades gap.

^Especially once they fixed the problem of Tie Fighters flying through the Millennium Falcon!

Enterprise Vs. Reliant is a stunningly great battle (several in fact).

Whilst I'll never be the greatest NUBSG fan in the world the time they jumped Galactica into the atmosphere of New Caprica was stunning.

^ I agree with Galactica jumping into the atmosphere and raise you the later battle of Galactica & Pegasus vs. 5 Cylon base ships.

The massive space battle in Serenity was teh awesome. Everybody vs. Everybody.

No problem, we can just Misc. it up!

My favourite epic space battle is every fistfight over a parking space in Russia, but especially this one:

... because the guy at the end is all "This is what happens, Larry!" on his opponents' car. :techman:

(I can just picture him telling this story to his mates and saying "So then, I got out my axe..." as if that was just the reasonable and logical thing.)

I have to agree..

It's also the first and only time I think in Star Trek where they treat space as a 3D environment. Most battles in Trek happen on the same plane... Which annoys the life out of me from a dramatic point of view..

Babylon Five had several great battles, at least by the FX standards of the time. "Severed Dreams", "Endgame", "Interludes and Examinations", "Between the Darkness and the Light", "Shadow Dancing", "Into the Fire", "In the Beginning" all readily come to mind.

Fist time perhaps, only time perhaps not. We did see battles in DSN, such as Sacfrifice of Angels, were the Klingon task force comes in from a different angle.

Another vote for Battle of Endor. see for yourself:

Yeah I like the Battle of Endor too

And there is this...

Wormholes as weapons

Battle of Wolf 359, because I get to see so much of it in my head when they do the audio on the Enterprise Bridge.

Battle of Endor also reigns...

Here is another anime example, the intense first battle from Crest of the Stars. It is quite tactical but also quite emotional.

It's not made clear at the beginning of the clip, but this battle actually takes place in a hyperspace bubble; each ship travels in its own bubble, and when the bubbles merge the ships can interact.
