I'm a sucker for Oh Holy Night -- such a powerful song. Little Drummer Boy is second. Maybe 12 Days of Christmas is third.

I fell like for holiday music, you can't beat the classics from the 1930's-1950's...not sure if that's when they were all written, but the great crooners made em shine:

I can't find a favorite artist for DUYHWIH but I love the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir's version of Ring Christmas Bells. Oh, and the Trans Siberian Orchestra's versions!

O come, O come, Emmanuel is without a doubt the most beautiful and powerful Christmas hymn.

The Holly and the Ivy's a nice one too.

My favorite would have to be "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing" because of the depth of the lyrics and the fact that it always makes me think of the end of It's a Wonderful Life.

I also like "Angels from the Realms of Glory" because it's really fun to sing lines like "Sages, leave your contemplations."

Gloria in Excelsis Deo (or whatever its proper name is), because of the fun you have singing the Glo-oooo-ooo--ooo- ria bit and stretching it out as long as humanly possible. Oh, and O Come all ye Faithful, because you get to shout the "come" bit really loud. Can you tell I really loved my old school carol concerts.

"O Holy Night"--but only in the hands of a talented singer.

I never thought much of it until I heard it sung one year by a soprano-in-training, who was living with us in residence. It blew me away.
