Even with 20/20 vision, I'd have a hard time making out most details and small things beyond the edge of the ship's saucer. At five kilometers, a space ship the size of the Enterprise is just a little more than a dot assuming it is barely moving; at small percentages of the speed of light, it's a steak of light, both assuming it is well lite.![]()
This also dovetails with my "Of course people wouldn't know who Superman is as long as he's not a guest on Good Morning America."
I spend a longer amount of time than I suspect is normal thinking "Now how big would the Enterprise look if it was over there?" and "If Superman was on the wing of that airplane flying over me right now, would I know it?"
