Even with 20/20 vision, I'd have a hard time making out most details and small things beyond the edge of the ship's saucer. At five kilometers, a space ship the size of the Enterprise is just a little more than a dot assuming it is barely moving; at small percentages of the speed of light, it's a steak of light, both assuming it is well lite.

This also dovetails with my "Of course people wouldn't know who Superman is as long as he's not a guest on Good Morning America."

I spend a longer amount of time than I suspect is normal thinking "Now how big would the Enterprise look if it was over there?" and "If Superman was on the wing of that airplane flying over me right now, would I know it?"

To be honest, I'm not actually sure what the Ent-D moon roof is. However, you can clearly see a window to space on the ceiling of the bridge:

That's the one, yes.

It was also shown prominently at the end of Generations, shattered after the crash on Veridian III. So definitely not an indestructible part of the bridge structure. Looks like it was at least an inch thick, possibly more.

Because it's funny. We often have frozen bodies bouncing off of spaceship windows for comedy relief. DSC did it in their pilot and I think we've seen it multiple times in the MCU. And who can forget the ring of frozen corpses that could be seen perpetually orbiting around the Avenue 5?

It looks good and validates human senses, giving the humans who watch the series (perhaps also their animal companions) a sense of value.

There's also the psychological side of things. People want to see something with their own eyes. Seeing something on a screen just doesn't compare to the naked eye. Remember, these people are explorers.
