What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

^ I didn't like the fact that there was no true center seat. Just looked weird to have the captain and XO's seat spaced like that.

Hell, why does the XO even need a seat, anyway? They should be too busy to ever sit down.

I did like Voyager's bridge but mainly for the rear consoles and stations and less for the design up front where Tom sat and the side stations where B'Elanna often served duty. The NX-01 bridge isn't remotely perfect but it has a very metallic and tactile appearance that looks like a hybrid between a 21st century submarine and the TOS Enterprise.

Because it got rid of a lot of empty space with more stations, it added more people to the bridge, it made it seem more like a big hub of activity.

One of my favorite bits in “The Wrath of Kahn” is when Kirk and McCoy first come onto the bridge. It looks like a busy command center.

a lot of the time the bridge during TNG just seemed so...quiet.

totally agree. The dual center seats are the biggest mark against Voyagers bridge to me. It’s the same kind of deal with the 3 seats on the ED and EE. At least that was symmetrical. I always thought they should have had the XO’s have a shared roll on the bridge, like Spock being Science Officer and XO. They could have had Riker at the helm or running tactical.

Anyone hoping for the microminis in SNW just needs to be equally eager for the TMP bulges if winds of time shift.

It's Star Trek. Inertial dampeners never perfectly dampen... the inertia.

Really, everyone's duty station or duty area should have one or more places where in case of emergency, when the plane has to fly through extreme turbulence or when everyone has to lean to the right or left, they can go to fasten their seatbelts. :ouch:

Ah. That seems understandable.

Part of me actually hopes if they have more shows in the 23rd Century, we'll eventually end up back in the TMP Era.

That'll be fun. For all the right reasons... and all the wrong reasons.

Do you also want the women to walk around in go-go dresses that barely cover their butt cheeks

This feels like a trick question...

Number One did not in the Cage, SNW takes place in that era. Between The Cage and TOS there must have been some sort of sexist change of command.

Meh: crew had a choice between pants and skirts (just like TNG scants), skirts were in fashion for women in the 2260s. No biggie.

It's never going to be identical. Redoing the look is built in to Trek.

In the Trek game I run there are a people called Aneilogs, digitigrade hoofed bipeds with not a shred of "modesty." Universally , male or female they wear the "Aneilog scant" the difference being the skirt is slit up the back for their tail. Equally seen depending on the crew are pants, and in the case of the Handicapped Ane a horn wrap.

Which game?

Yeah, give me pants every day of the week, and twice on Sunday

We're very different people...

Nah, there was no need to go that far in to the future.

An odd sentiment from some one who keeps telling Discovery critics that Trek can't be tied to the past...

Well, they're trained professionals, not cadets...

It should never have been a prequel. Should have been set after Nemisis. It would have fit so much better in pretty much every way.
Erm, Spock having a human sister he was raised with really, really wouldn't. Sarek and Harry Mudd being involved really wouldn't.

If you mean "the graphics and tech look closer" than yes, hence the Discovery bridge being used for Riker's ship in Picard.

Not being tied to the past doesn't mean going so far in to the future that we couldn't reasonably imagine it. I like Discovery and all but the writers are pushing their ability to represent tech in an understandable way going that far ahead.

As for your pictures of the TOS bridge this debate will go on forever but I don't see them replicating the TOS look for an ongoing show. One off episodes for fun and fan service? Sure. But, an entire show built like Star Trek New Voyages or Phase 2 or Continues strikes me as unlikely.

But, hey. I could be wrong. Maybe staying in the past is exactly what the franchise needs.

I agree with every word there.
