What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

That's just one of the many. I hate reboots in general, because DSC just ruined the magic of the TOS era.
But in your profile, you list Discovery as one of the series you like.

Explain.

Also: In the Future of Trek forum, you posted an idea for what you think would be good for Strange New Worlds. If DSC is a "reboot", then so is SNW, by your standards. But you seem receptive to SNW.

So it's not that you don't like "reboots". It's just that you don't like the way DSC did it.

I've had trouble getting into Discovery, but I am happy for those who enjoy it. I have plenty of older Trek to stream.

I didn't mean that it ruined TOS, I'm saying that it made that era a lot different than we were shown in TOS.
Well, then you're in luck, because DSC jumped 930 years into The Future at the end of the second season, where it's going to stay for the rest of its run.

So the key problem you have with Discovery no longer applies to what it's doing now. Amputate the first two seasons, just look at from the third season on, and you're good to go. To put it a simpler way: treat it like it's TNG.

It didn't make TOS lesser, it is just disappointing, because I really liked the low tech look of TOS, and I don't like how they changed the Enterprise in DSC.

As I said in the SNW thread. They can't make a spaceship set in a show from the 2020s look like a set from a show from the 1960s, unless it's a parody of 1960s scifi.

Do you also want the women to walk around in go-go dresses that barely cover their butt cheeks and with giant beehive wigs?

Number One did not in the Cage, SNW takes place in that era. Between The Cage and TOS there must have been some sort of sexist change of command.

Many think that TOS is still high tech and that the TOS look is the primary thing that made it work. At least it seems to me. DSC was going to disappoint no matter what because it wouldn't look like TOS/60s.

While going totally 1960's wouldn't be my choice, i would like to see a visual disconnect with STD and Picard, and something of a return to what was seen during TOS. Lighting and use of colors definately. Better lit and bright would tell the audience immediate that the show wasn't going to be more slogging through darkness, which hopefully it won't be.

Absolute must to get rid of the massive spralling bridge, and a return of the smaller bridge seen on TOS.

Yes, let's have some fun with the costumes.
and with giant beehive wigs?
Only a few of the female charactrs had them. How about we only see "the beehive' when the female character are in dress uniforms?

Yes, which is exactly why there should be lighting. You don't want to accidentally phaser your captain intead of beaming him up, because it's too dark to see what your doing.

Sadly, they really do.

My eyes must be better than most because the recent shows don't strike me as too dark. I certainly wouldn't end up shooting my captain by accident...and you can't prove it was on purpose either.

No there wasn't. There was a change in costuming between the unaired pilot and the series proper. Every Star Trek series reflects the tastes of the time they were made in.
Plus the Cage didn't have the three traditional division colours either, while the Enterprise uniforms in DISC have them.

No! Why? They can afford a bigger, better looking set now. Why limit it only because the series from the 60s couldn't afford anything bigger?

Yes, let's have some fun with the costumes.

Yeah let's have fun...with the civilian attire. They can make that as outlandish as they can, but please put the female working professionals in pants, thank you.

Because we are bound by the rules of the 60s. No matter what, if it is in that era it must remain bound by those rules and limitations. I must sound like a broken record by now but that is seriously what I have seen since ST 09. Star Trek series are not canon unless they hold on to the 60s aesthetic and design language 1000% faithfully. *cue Journey song*

Well it's not gonna happen anyway. I don't think they will downgrade to imitate 1960s sets, no matter what some fans say.
