What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Plus we don't know how much Starfleet and the Coalition of Planets classified after the Earth-Romulan War ended in 2160 or even during it. For all we know the cloaking devices seen by human and Allied crews were kept under wraps.

Maybe they figure that the Federation, unable to make their own cloaking devices, is doubling down their R&D on finding ways to penetrate them.

^ Beat me to it. It's most likely an ongoing arms race between cloaks (and peripheral shipboard-function moderation to facilitate same -- such as plasma exhaust being contained) and sensors to penetrate them.

Same with modern Aircraft Stealth Tech and Submarine Stealth.
The ongoing battle between detection and hiding is ever increasing and continuing.

If one wants to get really pedantic the technology seen in "Balance of Terror(TOS)" was referred to as an "invisibility screen." Even the ENT Romulan cloaking tech wasn't really described using that term if I'm remembering correctly. That could mean the principles behind 22nd and 23rd century Romulan cloaking devices were markedly different.

Just like F-117 used primitive flat panels for Stealth and was considered Gen 1 Stealth while the B-2 managed to use complicated curvatures that were computer calculated for Stealth signature, which is considered Gen 2 Stealth.

The F-22 is considered Gen 3 Stealth

The F-35 is considered Gen 4 Stealth.

Controversial Opinion:

I'm a Star Trek fan, and as such, I actually love about 90% of the franchise.

And even the other 10% really isn't that bad.

It really isn't.
This is the thread for controversial opinions, not "best opinions/actual facts."

EDIT: I'll go. Skin Of Evil is the worst episode of TNG S1

I remember when that opinion was widely held. People took cheap shots at it all the time. But of all the Treks, it's popularity has grown the most with age.

I'm proof. I hated DS9 forever. Couldn't get past the first episode. I gave it another try recently and fell in love with it. It broke a lot of the traditions that fans say they hate about TOS and TNG, like squeaky clean characters and non-linear storytelling.

Star Trek Beyond is a good film. Absolutely the best of the Kelvin movies, better than any of the TNG movies and better than some of the of TOS movies.

I'm not sure being held captive, raped, and murdered by Romulans was "better".

It definitely wasn't an "empty death" which is what she was so afraid of, so that's something I guess.

No, not really. Given her backstory that seems rather tragic.

Honestly, her death in "Skin of Evil" while random was at least in the line of duty, rather than her being out of place in time and jumping on to a random ship.

It was worth getting Sela just to see Tasha one more time, even if she was an alternate timeline version of herself. Her anti-time appearance in "All Good Things...(TNG)" was also pretty good.

It was worth getting Sela just to see Tasha one more time...

It really wasn't. Thankfully they steered clear of her in the movies. :p

It was a neat sci-fi idea, but Crosby simply didn't have the chops to pull it off convincingly. I still laugh at her "I am Romulan." in "Redemption II"

Maybe it wasn't a happy fate, but it was a good episode.
The episode was entertaining in as much as we were watching alternate universe versions of our usual characters I suppose.
However, it's core concept is highly problematic in that the timeline never has any reason to happen in the first place.
Hmm, is that controversial? ;)
