What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Given Lower Decks showing an alternate reality with Discovery era Klingons, I conclude Strange New Worlds is in an alternate reality, but one that is very similar to the Prime universe.
No. Not unless you want to say things like the Sovereign, Galaxy or Oberth class ships are all from an alternate reality.

Then he's really not as worried about the Picard line ending with Rene as he's letting on in that scene.

But unless he has kids then it does mean their won't be any more Picards. He didn't know he would someday get one with Dr. Crusher and of course his other son Wesley took Crusher as his last name instead of Picard. :)

Or he never wanted children and was planning on not having any. Besides a family of 'no more Picards' unless his father's side came from a long line of one child only families, or only the females in the family had children and never used their mothers' last name, it was a strange thing to say.
I would hope by the 24th century the human woman changing their name thing when married or their children having their partner's surname, would be a choice, not an expectation.
Maybe all his paternal first, second and third cousins were female.
Right off the bat in Encounter at Farpoint, we get these two quotes from first Picard, then Crusher:

PICARD: I'm not a family man, Riker, and yet, Starfleet has given me a ship with children aboard.

CRUSHER: Your father liked him very much. Great explorers are often lonely. No chance to have a family.

Pretty clear that Picard's characterization was always he didn't want a family of his own, and prioritized his career.

Meh. It's my opinion.

I also think there are different de Lancie Qs. Remember when he brought a double of himself onto Voyager in Death Wish? I think it's him, just from an alternate timeline.

Basically, I think a lot of the inconsistencies in canon can be boiled down to alternate realities/timelines. And different writers doing their thing, of course. ;)

I think of the variation in the features of people—and in the features of dogs, good grief, what an enormous variation!—and all the different kinds of Klingons don't look all that dissimilar. Same for all the different kinds of Gorn.

My wife is a cat rescuer.

As a result, we have seven cats.

Do not be alarmed. We love cats.

We have a spacious home and they are treated as royalty.

They are house cats, so they don’t go out.

All ragged runts, in some cases literally picked up when dying in the street.

Now all hale and hearty and shitting all the time and guess who has to clean the litter tray?

You got it, buddy. Yours truly. That’s who.

They won a lottery ticket alright. That’s a fact. Fickle fate gave each of them a favour.

They are entirely unappreciative of this fact. They lord it over me and my wife. Like lords.

They see me as a kind of lumbering, indentured servant I think.

I am their Igor. Noisily blundering around, tidying their world.

Anyway, my point is…

Was there one?

Oh yeah. Dogs and Klingons are …different or something.

Because that matters. It does.

Well.

I have seven cats and they all look totally different. So cats can also be different.

I should have opened with that.

Don’t post (about cats) when high. This is what happens. Look at it! Look!

My interpretation of that scene was that both Qs were Q, from that universe, and at that point in time. Q just split himself into two instances. I'm still debating with myself as to whether they were two independent entities at that point or if they were both just avatars controlled by Q. He isn't merely 3 dimensional (or even 4 dimensional, if you take the 4th as time), so there's many possibilities.

That would have defeated the purpose considering the whole reason he summoned "another" Q was so he could put himself on the stand and provide insight into the Q Continuum of our reality. He wouldn't have done that if that were a Q from another reality.

Besides, if Picard were sterile, how could he have believed a year earlier there was any possibility that Jason Vigo was his biological son? Were Picard sterile, he should have seen through DaiMon Bok's fraud right away.

Vigo was conceived before Picard was assimilated. I wasn't suggesting Picard was born sterile.

Though Picard thinking he was sterile might explain not using birth control at Jack's conception.

Because we certainly can't accept the fact that sometimes people make mistakes and forget about birth control before having sex. No, the only explanation is that he is, or believes he is sterile.

For fucking real?
Exactly.

This is how Kasidy Yates got pregnant at the end of DS9. (Ben didn't take an injection that Bashir reminded him about, but was so busy with everything going on in the war that he forgot.)

It seems like there would be longer lasting versions of birth control in the 24th century. One's that would be simply updated at each mandatory physical with other immunizations that one would get.

Plus, we would have to have two people who forgot about their birth control in order for someone to get pregnant.

I don't understand your point. Yes, when the Cerritos changed into a different class than the Cali, that would indicate there is a Cerritos in a different (but similar) universe where it is that class of ship.

Or something like that

People have used the appearance of Discovery style Klingons in that episode of Lower Decks as proof that Discovery was an alternate timeline. By this same logic, the appearance of a Sovereign, Galaxy, and Oberth class ship from an alternate timeline must also be proof of those classes only existing in an alternate timeline.

People sometimes (often?) do dumb things with regards to sex. I find it hard to believe that will change by the 24th century.

Not necessarily. When we saw Worf traveling through parallel universes, early in the episode the universe was 99.9% the same as his/our own. The only difference being Picard not showing up to his party in one but there in the next. So it’s entirely reasonable to think the Disco Klingons are from a wildly different timeline but the Sovereign, Galaxy and Oberth came from timelines that are virtually identical to the one “our” Cerritos is in.

It doesn’t help that post-finale Mike McMahan played coy about where the Disco Klingons fit. Kinda throwing gas on the fire.
