What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Pine is a fine Kirk, but I am not sold on Wesley at all.
I HATED him at the end of season 1. Now when I watch this "Kirk: On the Third Day" OTOY thing when I see young Kirk I see rather a lot of Wesley.

He won me over in Tomorrow etc. and through season 2 he just kept winning. In a few years when SNW has run it's course I NEED PW in a "Star Trek: The Motion Picture - Thataway" spin off.

Robin Curtis was a genius recasting. I've always liked her better than Kirstie Alley in the role of Saavik and Curtis seemed much more Vulcan and effective as a supporting character.

I've always kind of wished Kirstie could have continued in the role myself, as I've often felt Robin's performance is a bit too flat in ways (but that was also partly due to Leonard Nimoy's directon as well). But she's by no means a bad incarnation of Saavik. :)

When I was young, I found Wesley Crusher mildly annoying. Not to the point of it ruining the show, but I was kind of glad when he finally left TNG. I never blamed Wil Wheaton though, and I certainly wasn't one to tweet at him about it. That kind of stuff is just awful.

But I find myself in the odd position now of finding that I am more annoyed by Wheaton's public demeanor than I ever was by Wesley. :D

Out of curiosity, how so?
If you have any social media accounts, look him up. He's constantly complaining about every single thing, from social issues to politics to entertainment.
And if you try to even decently engage him he will block you or start calling you names.
Come to think of it, a lot of Star Trek actors are like that, not just Wheaton.

I've come to realize that many of the people who think they are decently engaging him really aren't doing so.
Having said that, yes. I am most certainly left wing (I'm Dutch btw), and I agree with many of this opinions. The way he, and other left wing celebrities, has voiced has been a bit tiresome.

That's what I mean.
Not to get political outside of certain boards here, but people like him and others, along with the 'way' they were messaging liberal views the last four years, was what drove a lot to the right, and Trump got elected.
Still, liberal or conservative, people need to get off their soapboax. It's tiresome now LOL.

A lot of the performative 'LOOK HOW PROGRESSIVE AND OPEN I AM!' Hollywood types annoy me.

I will give you my nova hot take.

The leadup to Picard damned near killed any want for me to try any sort of trek. 'IF YOU ARE ___ THIS IS NOT FOR YOU!'

Me: No, 'those' are the people that most need to hear what Trek usually has to say. I say usually because the pre-production and other jabber surrounding Picard just felt very... VERY... Tiresome. Very 'if you do not watch this you are the most vile scum of the earth and we don't want you' type rhetoric.

Star Trek is at its best when it ... OK it gets preachy as all heck, but preachy as the story not shouting at the audience outside of the story, if that makes any sense. Trek.... shows people through scifi the pitfalls of treating their fellow sapient beings as 'less than' or otherwise become jaded and selfish.

That is when Trek is at its best.

What you mean is "preaching to the choir", isnt it?

…I see.

No. I mean literally I remember them going 'if you are [Essentially, conservatives] Go away!'

I'm sorry but when did the actual producers and actors start gatekeeping, and when was gatekeeping seen as a GOOD thing?
I understand and agree. But, in the end such a behavior (i didnt come across this) leads to "preaching to the choir". Which is okay, but it wouldnt change the world. It keeps progressive thinking in ints own bubble.

Wheaton feels like he's constantly butthurt about every single thing, sort of like Reddit Mods.
I used to like him way back when, but the last 15 years or so he's become absolutely insufferable.

I’m not going to lie, his tantrum about Larry David and Elmo a few months ago was one of the most embarrassing things I’ve ever seen.
