Re: Super 8. Tries very much to recapture the spirit of The Goonies and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. It's not bad at all. If you like those movies, it is worth seeing.

Saw Super 8. Loved it. There's only one mildly cornball moment towards the end. It did remind me of a cross between Close Encounters and ET, with a little of JAWS thrown in. 
It was a very gripping, and pretty well-layered film for a summer action-flick. I really enjoyed it. The audience applauded afterward, something I haven't seen in awhile.

Super 8 was fantastic, I saw it tonight as well. The Alien was very District 9 to me. Loved the movie.
Watched Mortal Kombat last night. It actually held up very well for me (It came out when I was 8).
