just started 'The case of Wagner' by Nietzsche. 
Did you read The Fountainhead? Because if you're asking so you can see what all the Ayn Rand hate/love is about you could just read that one, it gives you everything you never wanted to know and it's a helluva lot shorter.

I know zero, zilch about Rand, but figured about time I tried as I've regularly seen Galt/objectivism come up. I only plumped for Atlas over Fountainhead as it seems the more weighty; I read Ulysses before Portrait, but then again that was probably a big mistake

They are terrible novels as far as literature goes. Almost hilariously so. But still worth reading one or the other to get the gist of Rand since it comes up so often.
Rand books are just plain bad, but they offer an important insight into the minds of the Ayn Rand cultists and adherents in American conservative and libertarian circles. It is kind of odd that a Russian atheist is the poster child for so many evangelical Americans, but I suppose stranger has happened.
Im always amazed people willingly subject themselves to bad literature. But then I did read some of the Brian Herbert Dune novels (if only to be completist). I guess Rand is on the radar really just to see wtf the fuss is all about and fill one of those many ignorance lacunae.
Seriously you could read three chapters from The Fountainhead and that would be enough.
I'm more than happy to walk out of a bad film or play (and have. Often) but rarely abandon or unfinish a book. I feel I'm in for a time of suffering 
Gave up on the Orson Welles biography for the moment and I'm reading a Clint Eastwood one.
Rand's books are idiotic and morally vacant. Don't expect much. I read Atlas Shrugged at 12 and was able to pin it for the bullshit it was even then...I really don't think it's worth your time. The wikipedia article will tell you everything you need to know about the books, with a lot less Stupid.
^Seriously, though, you'll fine better narrative, more depth, and greater moral fortitude on fanfiction.net. In the Omegaverse! 
Currently reading John Gardner's second James Bond novel For Special Services on the train to work, and Robert E. Howard's "The Complete Conan" in bed before turning off the light.

This Catholic read the Wikipedia article and decided that was enough.I finished Snuff by Terry Pratchett a while back, so I have officially completed the main Discworld books once. Now I'm alternating between KRAD's tie-in to Supernatural, Bone Key, and Rowling's Chamber of Secrets. I snuck Pygmalion, Paolo Coelho's The Alchemist and Pratchett's Johnny and the Dead before the year got started.
