Poll What are you most looking forward to in season 2

What is the storyline your most looking forward to in Season 2

Oddly enough, I'm not "looking forward" to anything listed. I'm most looking forward/hopeful for story elements which are completely new and unexpected based upon where the end of season 1 left us.

Absolutely not, but...so would the rest of the crew be there? Just the dead ones? Lorca? It’s a can of worms. Which like I said, I am fine with them going down that route in the story, but I bet the backlash will be intense.
As opposed to any of the other backlash this show has gotten?

I just want to get to know the bridge crew because they're basically all strangers at this point.

But yeah, I'm also excited about Pike and Co.

FUCKING COLORS!

At least on the uniforms. Hopefully also on the sets.
Regarding all the stated plot threads (all of them!): Meh.
I'm much more interested in learning more about Saru (especially!), Burnham, Stamets and Tilly. Apart from that I'm really only interested in seeing some previously unknown planets, places and aliens.
So I guess the main arc is gonna' be (again!) a dissapointment for me - but I hope for some little sci-fi nuggets here and there that peak my interest.

I remember reading that season 2 will have more space exploration and the classic Trek space anomalies. That is the kind of thing I'm looking forward to.

and Tilly.

I reckon so. Because it would attract backlash from a whole new quarter, and muddy the waters. Once you have something as overtly religious seeming as a soul, you will get a religious group not liking it because it’s not their specific interpretation, an anti-religious group complaining about religion in their cereal. If you go with something that looks like a soul in a show like discovery, but give it a technobabble explanation, you will most likely get those same two groups, with different arguments. Now...you can probably do it for a one off episode (Treks played that game before...Star Trek 3, a surprisingly large number of Voyager episodes...) but DSC doesn’t do one off episodes. There would be backlash from people who feel he should have stayed dead for silly reasons, there will be backlash from people who think he should have stayed dead because it was a poignant moment from series one (the ghost Culber in the network because Stamets needed a voice for his guidance...that sits ambiguously enough to keep the peace.) or backlash from people who will see bringing him back as kowtowing to a certain groups of fans. If we can get Culber out of the fridge why not Landry? Why not Lorca?
I am sure there are some eventualities I have not even begun to fathom, those are just the most obvious ones.
Me? If it’s handled well, it’d be cool to see something done with it. But I can’t see it being handled well enough in general, let alone to see the potential pitfalls off.
The backlash on DSC at the moment is nothing compared to where those can head in this day and age. They made a mistake fridging him, but they scraped by getting away with it...barely. Better to run away while they are ahead. Maybe some Culber flashbacks or more ambiguous Stamets visions...even if it’s a bit BSG.

I want to hear ‘some kind of’ a lot. As a born again Voyager fan, it would please me.

What I wanna know is
1) why has Burnham such an odd first name
2) why the actress can't act her way out of a paper napkin, and
3) why does she wear such an awful haircut all the time?
I mean, she used to look decent when she was a Vulcan foster child. It all went downhill after the pilot (IMO).

Out of the choices, it's Pike/Enterprise. (And please, hire much better writers and get rid of the old ones!)

Because the character was created by Bryan Fuller, who has a thing about given female leads male first names.

That's a matter of opinion. I've never seen SMG in anything else, so I can't judge if it's her or the material. I will say however she just doesn't seem to be the right actor for a leading role, although she'd be fine as a supporting cast member.

3) why does she wear such an awful haircut all the time?

It's kind of racist and fucked up to say that a black woman had "decent" hair when it was straightened, and now it's "awful" when she wears it natural.

Okay, @Weyoun 7 's comment was pretty obviously made in bad faith, promoting negative stereotypes and made only to provoke a reaction.

That being said, I do think he has (half of) a point. Burnham's haircut does look kind of weird:

Like, not bad or anything. But it still looks a bit off - like Riker without a beard, or T'Pols weird over-pronounced reverse-bangs from ENT's 1st season.

I think it can be improved. Give us a full 'fro, or shorter hair in general. If they feel bold, Black Panther had a LOT of amazing hairstyles to be inspired by.

But as it is, I think it looks like a weird...half Afro hairstyle? Where it is clearly intended to register as "Western" overall, but her straight upstanding hair above the forehead clashes with the style of the rest of the cut. IMO it reminds me more of Marge Simpsons' hair than that of any black women I have ever seen.

Then again: It is clearly a lot better than the straightened hair she had in the pilot. Looks a lot more natural.
And I love that her hair looks utilitarian instead of "just" pretty. Like she could go out on an away mission on the spot and never have her hair stuck in a tree (or grabbed by a klingon).

^ Her hair looks right there looks like mine in the early-'90s, except mine was straight.

Racist trolling aside, I like her hair, and always am impressed with what SMG does with it. Maybe she could do a Janeway and have different do's in each episode.

All that said, I'm curious the most about Spock and Pike, obviously, as an old TOS fan. But I have some concerns that this would overshadow the main cast and story, and we need to move on to the main story.

I picked Pike and crew because it's the only way they can possibly lure me back. I am not at all interested in the further adventures of the present crew of the Discovery. Pike and crew could be a curiosity to me I couldn't resist. Even at that, the Enterprise will not become the focus of the show so I doubt I'm a long term viewer anyway.

I’m looking forward to seeing what challenges the crew of the discovery face in season 2 and how we can reflect on being better humans as a result (“who watches the watchers” is a great example of the sort of thing I mean).

As it’s current year I expect that we’ll be looking at a season-long adversary or threat. Personally I’d like that threat to be small scale. One of the things I liked about Captain America civil war was the (spoiler alert I guess) villain wasn’t a giant death ray in the sky (or a big bad fleet of Klingon monsters). It was one guy who was really clever. Like Eddington. Show us a villain who doesn’t need to beat the hell out of starfleet officers and can outwit them. Show us someone who’s allegiances are shady and vague (like Garak). Show us a character who can threaten the likes of Burnham and the gang by using their own flaws and fears against them. Show us clever people being clever. I’d prefer that over all the cgi battles their computers can make.

Better yet, put an officer on the ship who is just as clever as Michael. Or cleverer than Michael. She was held up as the yard stick in season 1 as being a genius (compared to Stamets and to Saru at one point). Give us an apparently friendly officer who may not be what they seem and give Michael a run for their money. Maybe said officer is a member of section 31? Or terra prime even - DSC likes to reference ENT so why not? In fact forget the 31 idea - just write someone with a troubled past who wasn’t terrorised or turned out to be evil the whole time. Like Eddington - whose defection to the Maquis was believable and relatable. Or even Tom Riker for that matter.

As the producers have recently said they desperately wanted to save money resulting in episodes like “magic”, they would have the potential for much smaller scale stories that could take place entirely on the ship. I’ll take Picard’s soliloquy about the Minktakans over Georgiou’s reference to the Mintakans in terms of style and substance any day.

Let’s see some of that trek potential lived up to disco! You can do it!
