For a franchise pronounced "DEAD" in 2006

Didn't know about this lol, I can't really imagine Star Trek dying. Maybe I'm too optimistic, but the worst case I can think of is a long time without a related tv series.

I remember people here pronouncing it dead or swearing it wouldn't be back for 50 years, but I don't know how many sensible people believed any of that. Star Trek is a brand owned by a money-grubbing corporation, that guarantees that we'll get some amount of stuff being thrown at us on an ongoing basis.

I'd say I'm likely to outlive Star Trek which doesn't really bother me. Better than dying while it's still reinventing itself and missing out.

Unless you're secretly Guinan, I can't see that happening. You may outlive this incarnation of Trek, as we have the last, but it'll always be brought back in one way or another. The success of JJ's movie proved once and for all that Star Trek endures beyond the original actors. There will always be a new Superman, a new James Bond, a new Sherlock Holmes... and a new James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock.

Even if, after the next Trek-related flop, it IS a 15 year wait. They bring back everything.

But in 100 years it will look like Captain Proton.

My top three, in order:

1. Star Trek Into Darkness. While shocked at some of the things that happened, I am very happy that Star Trek '09 has reinvigorated the franchise. Looking forward to seeing where it goes.

2. Star Trek novels. The last few years have been extraordinary. David R. George III made my head explode (along with other things).

3. Star Trek comics. Can't take the kid out of me. I love 'em.

Imagine if it went on for another 200 years and you had yourself frozen and defrosted to watch each new incarnation. Not having absorbed all the changes in culture and entertainment styles it would be very trippy and getting more so with each defrosting.

I am looking forward to the new ST movie I didn't know the name was Star Trek Into Darkness and I am hopeful for the future I hope the TPTB give us a new series and new characters in the future

... I hope the TPTB give us a new series and new characters in the future
Of all the future possible options, this one is the one I would like to see happen the most.

Movies, games, novels, conventions are all nice to degree, but it's a new series that at the top of my list.

:)

I'm looking forward to the new movie, and the TNG and Enterprise Blu-Rays.

Under the column of "other" I am hoping for the remaining Trek shows to be remastered and I am holding onto the hope that we might one day get a new, weekly television series again!

It's pretty much the holy grail.

After the SW announcement I feel like anything can happen in sci fi land, even a show that lasts more than two seasons!!

At the moment, STID, TNG-BR, novels. There are some comics I might look into.

Also a new weekly series in the future would be awesome.

I'm looking forward to more IDW comics, more Pocket Books prose, the new video game and the new movie.

Stuff that should be on the list:

1. More Prime Directive RPG.

2. DS9 Remastered.

3. The Secret of Vulcan's Fury Remastered (as a game or prose novelization).

4. 25th Anniversary Remastered (as a game, prose novelization or comic).

5. Judgement Rites Remastered (as a game, prose novelization or comic).

6. Kobyashi Alternative Remastered (as a game, prose novelization or comic).

7. TAS Remastered.

8. The Promethean Prophecy Remastered (as a game, prose novelization or comic).

:techman:

They'll update it!

But I don't want to miss out on anything. It's like dying before ROTJ was released. .

Hah. Believe it or not, my first semi-professional sale, way back in 1983, was a short story about a diehard Star Wars fan who is killed in a freak jukebox accident and discovers that his restless soul is doomed to walk the earth until he sees ROTJ . . . .

(As I recall, I got a whopping $55 from FANTASY BOOK magazine for that story. That was big money for a starving college student.)

Great minds think alike.
