What are the "must-see" films for the rest of 2009?

A Serious Man. It's got an amazing trailer. More to the point, it's the Coen Brothers. I find it very difficult to not absolutely love a film of theirs, usually.

I'm definitely going to go see Thirst, by Chan-wook Park. Yeah, I know it's a Korean movie, but c'mon, it's about vampires! And by the guy who did Old Boy! It'll probably be fun.

Aside from that, er, Avatar has my eye.

Sherlock Holmes for me.
For several lady friends of mine Twilight Saga: New Moon, geez how did it take till page two for mention of that film?;)
2012 I could warm up to, their last film 10,000 B.C. was very middling.
Avatar is overhyped imo, not interested at this point at all.

The Road, The Lovely Bones, and Avatar are definite. I'd love to see Red Cliff, but doubt very seriously it'll play near me.

Interested in Paranormal Activity.

Although I'm a big Sherlock Holmes fan and I love Robert Downey Jr, I really not excited for this one at all. I'd much rather see a more serious film with Downey Jr., and perhaps Johnny Depp. That's a pair I'd love to see together.

2012
New Moon
Those are the only two I really want to see. Maybe Zombieland and Where the Wild Things Are also.

While I'm excited about Where the Wild Things Are, 2012, Sherlock Holmes, and The Lovely Bones, the film I'm the most excited about for all of 2009 is The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

I just watched the trailer for Doctor Parnassus on YouTube, and I think I'm going to have to add that to my list now, too. It looks fantastic, and for the most part you can't go wrong with Gilliam. Besides, it's Ledger's final role, you almost have to see it if you were even a casual fan of his.

The only movie I want to see at the cinema for rest of 2009 is Sherlock. Avatar might be getting alot of buzz but I have no clue what is about really so far the Marketing has been poor.

Having recently finished reading The Road, I'm looking forward to the (inevitably depressing) film adaptation. I'll probably also check out Avatar, though the trailer I saw before (the excellent) Inglourious Basterds looked like a CGI-updated version of The Matrix.

Oh geez. How could I have forgotten about Parnassus?! Heck YEAH!!!

Joy

Ya just know its goin' to piss off the folks who went to see The Dark Knight thinkin' that was Ledger's final role!

Avatar has absolutely nothing at all in common with The Matrix, I'm not even sure how the trailer would have given you that impression. People jacking their brains into networks, surrogate bodies and shared consciousnesses are really common sci-fi themes.

The reasons and circumstances in Avatar couldn't be more different than in The Matrix.
Avatar is Dances With Wolves meets Pocahontas on another planet.

Avatar is the only film I would think to put in the "must see" category. 2012 and Sherlock Holmes look like total garbage... yet another end-of-the-world movie and a literary classic devolved into generic Hollywood action. I'm not sure what to think about Where the Wild Things Are.

Sherlock Holmes, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and Zombieland are the only films I really want to see. I'll probably watch Saw VI at some point.
