What are the most chivalrous deeds you've done so far?

Cingular

Depending on what your definition of chivalrous is, what are the most
(serious and/or humorous) chivalrous deeds you (or anyone you know)
have done so far ?

I regulary open doors for women and offer to walk them home should it be late. Asides from that I'm pretty into the whole equality thing (splitting the bill, etc).

I'd like to consider that to be a minimum standard and not "chivalrous" at all, but these days...

I do the same - plus I try to adhere to basically everything you'd find listed in Knigge's On Human Relations.

I will hold or open a door for whoever needs it, I don't generally do things just because someone is a female, if that is what chivallry is supposed to be.

I suppose I might offer to walk a lady home explicitly because she were female if I thought we were in a particularly dangerous area, although my friends can all take care of themselves and will ask for such help if required. Where I live is not dangerous anyway.

I once stopped someone I know from beating the living crap out of his girlfriend by getting in front of him and shouting "PACK IT IN!!". Repeatedly. For about two hours. Every time he raised his fists to her. Damn, that was a long afternoon.

Does that count?

I do my best to be nice to people I meet but I don't adhere to the sexist nonsense that comes with chivalry.

I won't hit women. Although I will defend myself if a woman was to attack me, just not in a man on man way (fists, etc). I don't think hitting women is fair because men are naturally stronger.

That doesn't really follow though, what if you got attacked by a woman that was clearly your physical better? What would your principles matter then? :p

Then I'd go for a submission hold or a restraint. That's generally what I'd do if another man was attacking me. I'd still not a hit a woman, even if she was my physical better.

But why? Considering your reasoning was that it wasn't fair because men are stronger?

Because I'd have to defend myself. I'm not just going to let myself get beaten up because it's a woman. I'm just not going to strike her because it's immoral to me. I guess the concept of hitting a woman just reminds me of domestic abuse.

OK, well that doesn't really make sense. I assume you, like me, wouldn't provoke a fight and wouldn't hit anybody unless it was absolutely necessary. And in the unlikely scenario that it is necessary, then gender doesn't come into it.

a couple winters back, i shared a taxi with a little old lady and a younger woman for them to get closer to their homes in the snow - even though they both lived out of my way.

we didn't go right to their doors, because they both said they'd walk the rest of the way and so's not to inconvenience the driver too much, by leaving him stranded.
