What are the good space battles?

1. Sacrifice of Angels

2. The Die is Cast

3. Call to Arms

4. Way of the Warrior

5. The Changing Face of Evil

6. Tears of the Prophets

^ To add to the list above of major space battles:

"Valiant" - A Defiant class vs superduper Jem'Hadar battleship. Plus I liked seeing those snotty Red Squad kids get smacked.

"What You Leave Behind" - Half of it is reused scenes, though I only have issue with the SoA reused scenes since they don't gel with the rest as they show a much tighter packed battle area whereas the others soon that the battle is fairly spread out with only a few ships actually in visual range of each other.

*In these episodes the battles are smaller scenes but I like them.

"Favor the Bold" - Defiant and Rot vs two Jem'Hadar attack ships at the beginning

"Treachery, Faith and the Great River" - Not so much the Jem'Hader ship getting destroyed by a runabout but I really like the scenes in the ice field.

"Paradise Lost" - Was is the last battle scene that used miniatures? Anyway, the Defiant vs the Lakota. Cool in seeing two Starfleet ships go at each other.

"Shadows & Symbols" - Nice little battle near the sun and seeing the shipyards burn is a pretty cool scene.

"Once More Unto the Breach" - Technically not a space battle but the scenes with the Dominion/Cardassian planetary starbase are cool.

I really liked The Jem'Hadar. I think it was the first Trek battle where my jaw actually dropped. Plus, there weren't really any neat space battle scenes in DS9 before that.

One of things I liked is that it proceeded like a TNG-style battle, but it had a decidedly un-TNG ending.

Problem with that battle, and most battles in late DS9 episodes is they really did need a military advisor on the show before they went into war.

"Our lines are stretched too far in the middle...."

Ever heard of Gettysburg? That is a GOOD thing, if the enemy falls for it and goes for the middle. Which they did.

Most f the attack fleet goes for the middle....still outnumbered, the reinforced sides of the dominion fleet left to right fall in and surround the middle goer's....battles over in five minutes before the cardassians rebel. Every klingon, romulan and federation starship blown to pieces.

I have to say honestly, due to the tactics always being flawed and even though logic states good guys will get their butts handed to them on a platter...trek battles have NEVER been anywhere close to my favourite.

Babylon 5 and BSG are more realsitic in the tactics, and the tactics of the good guys are actually pheasible.

If BSG did the same tactic in say, dominion war as sisko did....the BSG series woulda had the fleet blown to hell, bad guys win. Why? Because in reality thats what woulda happened for such an ill conceived attack plan.

^I dunno. What does a center or flank mean in space, anyway?

DS9 battles, like Star Wars battles, had the illogical but awesome-looking tendency to almost immediately devolve into tactics resembling 18th century sea battles (or with the Jem'Hadar, 5th century BC sea battles). Which is to say, uncontrolled, uncontrollable, close-range, two-dimensional smashery.

My personal favorite battle is in The Die is Cast, but not so much the part between the Jem'Hadar and Tain's task force. It's right before that, where after thirty years we finally get to see a real orbital bombardment. And boy does it work... makes you wonder why they got so upset about doomsday machines or thalaron devices, when a few simple starships were perfectly capable of tearing the mantle off a planet in just a few hours.
