What are the best dating sites online?

What have you tried?
How was your experience?
How much was it?
was it worth it?
Did you meet anyone?

trekbbs.com of course.

My experiance was awesome, it was free, it was worth it, and i met someone.

And I wouldn't call it trying.

One of my really good friends met her boyfriend on OKCupid. I think he's great, plus he's a Trekkie (she's not) and they've been together well over a year now. I don't know how it is overall, but might be worth a try!

One of those popular dating sites doesn't quite work for gays and lesbians (I forget which one and for what reason). No, I have never tried any of them and probably never will.

That's eHarmony.com, which specifically excludes gay couples, though they've started a separate gay site now as part of a settlement agreement. Can't remember it off the top of my head.

Ive heard some horror stories about plenty of fish myself.

I've only heard of it through a mate after catching her on it at work. She had one mixed experience and is now dating someone from the site.

Match.com is advertised as having 'Hot New Women!' and I know someone who's recieved a few dates from there. Unfortunately that someone is my mother. Not a good ad.

I don't know much about dating sites, but I do know that the most effective way is still just go out to a pub or club.

Those Match.com adverts switch every few months. They say they've got too many women so they do a special offer on memberships for men.

Then, they say their last special offer was too successful so now they've got too many men so they do a special offer on memberships for women.

Which, of course, proves to be "too successful" so they do a special offer on memberships for men.

That depends, really... I've met women in those places but either it turns out to be a one night stand, she's less entertaining when sober, has a severe drink problem or - like most women I've met (not a knock on women, just my luck) is completely unstable.

I've had reasonably better luck meeting people at work.

It's irritating and shows how full of crap they really are. They showed the women ad two weeks ago, then the men one last week.

I met a nice girl through Match....I'm doubtful it's going anywhere romantically at this point, but it's good to have a new friend anyway.

Did Match.com for a while. Dated several girls from there, and am now engaged to a girl i met that way. Worked well enough for me, I guess :)

I never paid for the full membership, though. Just left AIM contact info "semi-hidden" (read: just enough to pass the censors, but still obvious) in my write-up, and then would do that "poke" thing if i wanted to try and initiate contact. If they were interested, they'd usually either get the hint about AIM, or if they were a full member, would email me contact info of their own. Worked out nicely, as I didn't have to pay, and it was also a helpful little minimum-IQ test, weeding out those that couldn't figure it out...
