Am I the only person that found the scene where Kirk was getting chased by Ruc funny? Kirk tears down a stalactite which is shaped like an enormous phallus.

This may sound a little weird, but I'm really happy the remastered version cleaned up the print damage during the scene where Kirk fires his phaser at the guy (whose name I can't remember for some reason) and discovers he's an android.
There used to be a bunch of vertical black lines that appeared as soon as his phaser fired (where they layered in the effect) and it always bugged the hell outta me everytime.
Thankfully, it's gone now.

Ted Cassidy...an underused treasure. Strange thing to state you may think, but I mean it. What a voice! The voice of an angry and spiteful god! Hearing him as Ruk, as the false Balok and as the Gorn, I wonder how TOS could have employed Cassidy on a regular basis? No, not necessarily as a "rehabilitated" Ruk, any kind of role as long as it featured his godlike voice. Oh, yes, he's certainly intimidating when he "projects", but equally impressive are those moments when he becomes introspective and uses an "indoor" voice (well, "indoor" for him, anyway).
Cool aspect about the Ruk design, the clever use of greasepaint to "chisel" sharp, defined, inhuman features upon his face. Had they made the show today, I'm sure they would have sculpted sophisticated silicone appliances (I can imagine them adding a subtle "anime" mecha influence with faint "seams" following the contours of his face), but given the era, budget and rushed schedule, it works well enough.
Lame aspect about the design, the "granny house-dress" in pastels, no less! Ugh! Yes, it allowed the costumers to "pad" Cassidy's chest and shoulders, but I see that house robe now and I hear Mrs. Doubtfire in my head! Too bad they couldn't have fitted Ted with a jumpsuit similar to what Corby wore.

Eos? The planet in the episode was called Exo III. "Eos" would be old Greek for "dawn", and thus perhaps fitting for a world that features the beginnings of something great - "exo" in turn would be Greek for "outside". Neither word is found in real stellar names today.
The distance would be anybody's guess. Korby got to that planet without any specifically mentioned superhuman effort, so it's apparently well within the reach of Earth or Federation vessels, but that's all we can tell.
Oh, we can always argue that this episode comes directly after "Squire of Gothos" in stardate order, and "Squire" explicitly had our heroes at least 900 lightyears from home. In production order, the preceding episode would have been "Balance of Terror" near the Romulan Neutral Zone; in airdate order, our heroes were last seen in "Mudd's Women" near Rigel XII which was somewhere out in the sticks. But none of that speculation is particularly watertight...

Oh just make it a woman's prison movie and get it over with.
A good intro episode for Christine Chapel and yes she was fairly passive. Star Trek had it's share of strong women, but Christine was never one of them. The exception was the scene between her and Ensign Garrovick in Obsession where she gets Garrovick to "eat", one of my favorite bits.
