What annoys me most about Star Trek

The name Star Trek is forcing me to be creative in distinguishing between the film Star Trek, and the rest of the Star Trek franchise with which it is generally being compared to in most of the threads I respond to. Or rather, to most of the threads to which I reply.

Its a small complaint, but if theres a standard TLI for the new film, I'd could do with knowing.

Even though I personally like "oldTrek" better, it looks like a lot of people are adopting the name "prime universe" for the old Star Trek universe. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The movie should have had a subtitle, like "Star Trek: A New Beginning" to emphasize that it is in a new timeline and that the old timeline has been overwritten.

It's all Star Trek, From TOS Episode One to the NuMovie.

Except for some who think this nu movie "Deletes" all previous Trek.

The Subtitle is ST:XI.

True, as this is how its denoted in the movie credits. But that's going to get annoying - everything is 'prime' except this film? Why not give this timeline a moniker, as there's so much less of it?

I don't agree that it needed a subtitle; I hate the things on movies. In fact, I'd be in favour of naming the next one just its title, instead of Star Trek: Something Or Other. A bit like The Dark Knight. But I do think we need a simple and generally agreed way to distinguish it, as we do with TOS, TNG, etc. STXI doesn't seem to be catching on post-release, for some reason.

I like NuTrek, which some hate, but Primetrek to me sounds naff. Roll on the concensus.

I don't think I care too much for Nu Trek. it's too well associated with BSG. Besides what do we call it in another couple of decades, when they decide to do it all over again? We've been calling it XI for so long what's wrong with that? Yeah, I know, the whole alternate universe deal, I think we're smart enough to know what were talking about. Then the next one will simply resolve itself; They can't just call that one Star Trek too... Hmmm, Star Trek Too.
