What advertising have you seen so far?

I caught this over at The Daily Show's website and thought it was cool:

Where else have you seen the movie advertised so far? (Theatrical trailers excluded.)

Nowhere in Australia, unfortunately.

I've seen the IDW "Countdown" poster, a riff on the movie poster, in a local comic shop.

And a few Eric Bana interviews.

Aside from a short article with Simon Pegg in which the interviewer states that he "oddly" appears in the new Star Trek film, theres been little to no promotional work in Melbourne. Not even a trailer, although I have heard it is attached to "Yes Man".

Our Hoyts cinemas in Sydney now have a huge screen hanging above the candy bar in the foyer. The ST XI trailer screens often, and in rotation with other trailers.

And your fellow Victorian posters to this board have mentioned the Bana interviews.

Okay, so when you say "little to no promotional work" and "Not even a trailer..." you mean you personally haven't seen it. It's not like Melbourne has blackbanned ST XI.

^ I wouldn't say blackban. Its just surprising that in over the 6 or 7 movies I have seen in the last month in numerous different cinema complex's, I have yet to see anything promoting the film.

Meh, maybe I'm going to the wrong cinemas...I dare say closer to the release date, the advertising campaign will kick in to full flight, especially considering Bana's involvement.

Here in Taiwan they always advertise movies on the side of buses...once they do I'll be sure to take a picture.

I've not seen any advertising at all in Melbourne. Not a single movie poster at the Village cinema. Didn't get the trailer with Quantum of Solace, nor with The Day The Earth Stood Still (thought I may have got one with the latter, being in the same genre and all).

Therin, does Trek have a bigger fanbase up where you are in Sydney, or what? Down here in Victoria, it seems to be dead.

I'm told it's with "Yes Man" in Oz. It also plays on the loop in my local Hoyts' cinema's foyer.

Nowhere like it was, of course, but that's the same the world over. But in Melbourne Austrek is still running, IIRC.
Yep: http://www.austrek.org/ They have monthly meetings.

In Sydney, Astrex and Trek Australis were both killed off by the Official Fan Club in the mid 90s, then it folded, too. Until then Astrex had over 1000 members, and the Official Fan Club used to boast 3000.

Galaxy Bookshop still has a large Star Trek section, and they order lots of each new title - in two batches: air and sea freight. They do a lot of ST pre-orders, too.

I run a monthly Meetup group, which has 50 members on its books and gets 10-20 at a meeting, and some of our members I first met through TrekBBS.

You should start a Melbourne one. There are 20 people on a waiting list:

In today's Sunday Herald Sun Sunday magazine there was a nice article with Chris Hemsworth in which it mentions his appearance in the film. Suprisingly the guy doesn't seem like a total twat.

Saw it on ESPN.com, Fringe, Prison Break (or was it Terminator?,) Entertainment Weekly, Entertainment Tonight, The Trailer online, and Intel/Star Trek ads all over facebook.

Keep in mind that it's still many months away. You're not seeing any advertising at all for most May releases. The fact that anything Trek-related beyond the trailers is being released is a good sign.

I have seen ads on espn.com all the time now, at least once a day.
Same here.

The bigger movie theater here in Tallahassee had four posters from the movie in a row (character posters of Kirk, Spock, Uhura, and Nero). I was surprised to see that, honestly.

Across the street from the Starbucks I hang out at are three big poster displays for the movie theater down the street. Since the time that those black-and-white character posters were released the displays have featured the Uhura, Kirk and Spock posters.

I've noticed that people do stop to look at them sometimes, point and talk and move on. Maybe they're astonished by the size of Kirk's forehead, I dunno.

The "Countdown" poster, the Intel web ads and the links provided on these boards.

That's it so far.
