What "A" list stars would you like to see in a Star Trek Movie?

This could be fun. What top, high demand "A" list or big name stars would you like to see in a major role in a Star Trek film. I'm talking about people like Eastwood, Will Smith, Johnny Depp, Tom Hanks, George Clooney and the like.

I would like to see Eatwood, maybe as a renegade Starfleet Admiral. Or Will Smith as a down and out cmdr looking to regain his status. Or even Jack Nicholson as a villan or Starfleet cpt looking for revenge.

What would you guys like to see?

Don't care. If Will Smith or Jack Nicholson were to show up, I'd likely be amused, since I like those actors and would crack many jokes referencing older movies. But really, I don't care what actors other than the mains show up as long as they do a good job. I've never watched a movie for an actor. That kinda thing has been able to sell me if I was already interested in a movie, but never on its own.

Hanks would be good in the next Trek film. He's a big Trek fan, and would bring non-Trekkies into a film. The question is: who could he play?

Hanks as Garth of Izar? Harry Mudd? Cyrano Jones?

Hanks was at one point either considered for, or considering, or thought of, for Cochrane in First Contact. I think it would have been good, though I'm pleased with Cromwell. A Hanks-Cochrane would have had to been less a drunk, more silly and eccentric. I can hear him shouting the line "I don't want to be a statue!" fairly well.

That said...

I don't see any A-list actors doing Trek anytime soon. Which is good.

There is an old horror story about how, at point point, the idea was tossed around for Eddie Murphy to be in Star Trek IV. The film would have basically become a vehicle for him. It would have been an Eddie Murphy film featuring some Trek actors, not a Trek film. Maybe a good film; but a terrible Trek film. I'm glad it didn't occur.

A-list actors bring with them egos.

Bana with XI... he's not A-list. Not yet. He may become so. As it is, he's B-list, maybe even only C-list. So he was workable.

Once upon a time Judd Law was rumored for Shinzon. I think such would have been a vast improvement. Though I don't see why they didn't get Daniel Stewart (Patrick's son who resembles him) to play it... though he'd have been mid-40s or so for such. He did a cameo in Inner Light as the older son Batai.

Anywhom...

Any A-list actor would totally, IMHO, absorb the film. So... no A-lists, please.

If they wanted to do a Trek film based around an A-list without our traditional heroes? It could be cool. But any A-list actor in a "Kirk and Company" film would be FUBAR...

I could see an A-list actor who simply loved Trek doing a walk-on, the way that Christian Slater appeared for a brief moment (I think he had three lines) to give Captain Sulu a message in STVI.

It would be fun to see Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise or Will Smith or whomever show up for 3 minutes, to show up on the monitor and give Captain Kirk an urgent message, be a bartender, whatever. We'd all smile at the screen and smile and say "oh, that's so-and-so, cool!" It could be a fun little moment where an A-list Trekkie gets to be part of the experience, and the audience gets to be in on it.

But I can't really see an A-lister in a significant supporting role. As Frontier points out, the real star of a Star Trek movie is the "Star Trek" milieu itself. No A-lister wants to play 3rd fiddle, with the first fiddle being "Star Trek" and the second being the main crew.

Hanks would be good in the next Trek film. He's a big Trek fan, and would bring non-Trekkies into a film. The question is: who could he play?

Hanks as Garth of Izar? Harry Mudd? Cyrano Jones?

Well I wouldn't mind Hanks because, if you watched the press tour for Angels and Demons, when he visited Conan he promoted Trek more than he promoted his own movie! He's a fan so he could bring something interesting to the role.

In my opinion of course.

I'm not interested in seeing any "A list" stars in Trek... it's gone downhill quite enough thank you very much.

Don't know if she's considered "A list" or not, but I wouldn't mind seeing Summer Glau in a Trek movie.

I don't think "A listers" would enjoy being only a minor part to largely-unknown stars so you would end up wit ha Batman 1989 setup, where the villain or one-film character overshadows the star and eats up screentime. Most A-listers would not be happy playing some background Admiral or 4-scene villain. They would need to have a staring role to consider it. And I don't think Trek movies need to go down the route of becoming vehicles for A-listers.

I wouldn't mind seeing Samuel L. Jackson, if nothing else than to have Star Wars and Star Trek fans argue endlessly over which franchise he was better in...

I'm really not interested in seeing any A list actors in a Star Trek film. Slater's appearance was cool, but any big name (like the one's you mentioned) would take me out of the scene, and i'd rather not have that.

Frontier, I love your avatar!:techman: Is that from an episode or did you make it?

I think as long as it is kept as a small cameo, A-List trekkers would be fine. I would not want them to overpower the ensemble cast.

Maybe not A-listers,but I would like to see actors with sci-fi credentials feature in future Trek(large or small screen).
I'm thinking Bruce Dern,Keir Dullea,Michael Biehn,Lance Henriksen...
Methinks that even a walk-through cameo by the likes of Brad or Angelina, while cool, would lead to diminishing returns, where the cameo detracts from the story.

I don't know if this is related at all, but when I was reading Voyager: Full Circle, I was imagining Sally Field as Tom Paris' mother.
