Westward is an online daily comic strip about humans in space.
Synopsis:
Westward follows the lives and adventures of the people aboard earth's first interstellar space ship. It begins in the year 1998, five decades after a cataclysmic disaster brought humanity to its knees and forced it to achieve a level of greatness merely to survive. In a world of high ambition and deeply divided ideologies, a cold war rages with no end in sight; East and West struggle to push the boundaries of technology and gain an upper hand.
But this story isn't about earth.
It's about Francis Carter, a veteran hero of the Space Race, intrepid explorer and captain of the Westward—a man struggling to find peace in the shadow of deep secrets and an impossible reputation.
It's about Rosemary Wells, a girl who is about to test her dreams and ideals against the terrifying indifference of space.
It's about Phobos, the man from Mars, as mysterious as the world from which he comes.
The incidental narrator of the story is Lamont Townsend, a self-destructive, chain-smoking newspaperman who is in space because there was no place left for him on earth.
Westward is a serial adventure/drama. The best way to read it is from the beginning. The resources in this section, however, should help you get your bearings wherever you happen to be.
