Were there any people having open relationships in Trek?

A slut is not defined by her libido, it's the way she acts and carries herself. I would rather date a high class escort then some trashy looking chick.
Ah, so this is what this thread is about, the old 'men having problems with polygamous women' thing.

I was not saying anything about paying, some hookers have boyfriends.
I believe the technical term is "pimp."

:)

Reminds me of that 94 movie Wyatt Earp... it works for some people!

JAMES: What you got against her, anyhow?
WYATT: She's a whore, James.
JAMES: Yes, she is, Wyatt.
(cut to Bessie leading a patron upstairs)
JAMES: And a hard-working one at that.
WYATT: What are you doing with her?
JAMES: Same thing everyone else is doing with her. Only difference is she doesn't charge me.
WYATT: It doesn't bother you?
JAMES: That she doesn't charge me? No, I'm rather fond of the arrangement. On a good day, I can even get her to cook and clean a little.

Even in this advanced internet age you speak of, hundreds of women are kidnapped and forced into prostitution through threats, coercion, and torture. And that's a conservative estimate. None of those women are willingly in the business. Some are forced to work for an internet site.

Maybe I'm a bit out of touch but there is no such thing as an "Open Relationship".
You are considered friends with someone until either you or them call it exclusive. Then when it becomes exclusive there are limitations put on both members as to dating. And then you're in a relationship.

If you're both dating other people, you're not in a relationship, you're just friends.

Now, if you're talking about an "Open Marriage" that's a whole different can of worms. I would hope that by the 23rd Century people would be more considerate of each others feelings than to do something like that.

What could be more considerate of someone's feelings then giving them something that makes them happy and doesn't harm anyone?

Well, I don't know about Trek, but apparently "group marriages" are an accepted thing on DEFIANCE . . .

I would also point out the Denobulan culture seems based around open marriages. Heck Phlox was encouraging Trip to sleep with one of his wives. Part of accepting other cultures is accepting their values may not match yours, but that doesn't make it wrong. If everyone involved is consenting... why not?
