were Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner supposed to be in Trek XI?

Given that I really enjoyed how the novelverse has handled Data...more than I expected to, I think...I'm just as glad he didn't make a canonical appearance in the film.

Okay, I suppose the latter wouldn't necessarily preclude the former, but if they'd started providing explanations...

You dont want any hint of Berman trek in the reboot otherwise why bother reboot?!
Never mind why we supposedly wouldn't want it; more than a hint is already present in the 2009 movie, which was neither conceived nor executed as a clean-slate reboot.

That said, I don't think there was any need to have Stewart or Spiner appear, reprising their TNG roles or otherwise.

Well, the general audience wouldn't have been confused by Data's appearance because the general audience never even bothered seeing "Nemesis" in the first place.

But to answer the original question, no, there was never any intention of having Stewart and/or Spiner in 09. That was just some continuity fanwank made for the comic because continuity fanwanking is what the Trek comics and novels do. I'm surprised Dr. Pulaski, Commander Shelby, and Lieutenant Jae didn't make an appearance.

indeed...forget picard/data it shouldve been Harry Kim and Quark

I had to look up who Lt. Jae was. Obviously, I recognized her upon seeing her, but never realized she had a name. Which is weird, I'm usually pretty good with the background extras like Mr. Leslie, Ensign Kellogg, Lt. Ayala, Travis Mayweather...

Spiner was working on his own draft of Star Trek XI that was pretty much a Justice League / Best of Trek thing that was rejected.
