Well, just finished the special features....

Just finished the special features on series 5 with Matt Smith. Love his Doctor but do any of you miss the fan boy that was David Tennant in the extras.

I personally missed his in-depth Diaries and his commentaries.

How about you?

I really missed the audio commentaries on every episode, and I still think the in-vision commentaries are an unnecessary gimmick. I thought so for Series 2 and I still think so. I did like the Confidentials (were these "cut-downs"? I don't think it said so on the intros).

But while I do miss DT's enjoyable Diaries, it was nice to see Smith and especially Gillan take up the mantle.

I am not a fan of the "in vision commentaries". I much prefer normally recorded audio commentaries. The only extra I've seen so far is "Meanwhile in the Tardis" and thought that was great fun. I am still waiting for the DVD to arrive at the library, it's too expensive for me to buy currently.

^ Yeah, I'd forgotten to mention the "Meanwhile in the TARDIS" scenes. THose were great. Would have liked to have seen a couple more.

And the only time the "in-vision commentaries" showed any visual interest for me was the first one, I think, when I found Beth Willis's short skirt rather distracting. ;)

I thought Matt and Karen and Arthur did a fantastic job. I liked the idea of them editing the video diaries together because it made it have more of a family atmosphere. And I don't know - I didn't see any difference really between Matt Smith and Karen Gillan joking about on their tapes than, say, David and John Barrowman's "Doctor Poo" thing. I thought they did fine.

Commentaries? I can take them or leave them. Like others, I thought Beth's skirt deserved its own credit on a couple of them, but I've never been huge on commentaries, though Steven Moffat was fun.

My favorite extras were the outtakes, and the Confidentials where they let the actors take over, such as the one where Karen turned into a documentary producer for a segment at Greenwich, and a really cute moment where she pretended to be paparazzi and stalk Matt Smith. I was really happy those bits weren't cut from the "Cutdown".
