Well, I'm an idiot

Last night, I decided to create a joke facebook account for Steve, the bathroom ceiling tile my friends gave a face. I signed it up with a separate e-mail address and started friending people. Then I decided I wanted it on the University network, but it required a University affiliated e-mail address. No problem there, I'll just use mine. Of course, when I try to log back into my account, it says invalid password. I try typing in Steve's password, I get Steve's account. In a panic, I remove that e-mail from Steve, but it still doesn't work for me.

My facebook account works, I just can't log into it. I'm trying to get in touch with facebook and see if they can fix the problem. Unfortunately, I violated the terms of service agreement, so they might just decide they'd rather delete my account.

So, yeah, don't ever do this ;)

Which part voids the terms of service, using the same e-mail for two accounts or setting up an account for a bathroom ceiling tile?

Actually, just having two accounts would do that, it wouldn't matter if I used the same e-mail or a different one (just one's easier to catch, obviously).

oopsie... :)

well, maybe they'll accept "look, if my intent was to deceive I wouldn't have picked a ceiling tile as an alter-ego!" and let you have your account back.

That's what I'm hoping. Unfortunately, they haven't exactly understood my problem so far. They only responded by saying that they couldn't find my e-mail address. That's because it isn't associated with any facebook account anymore. I sent them a link to my profile and I'm hoping that helps. I doubt they want to ban me over something as stupid as this, but who knows.

EDIT: JW, coming right up :)

People use Facebook to create fake profiles for celebrities and then pretend to be them, and then they complain about a page for a ceiling tile ?

Priorities, people.

can you just deactivate the steve account??

It won't matter. By using my e-mail for Steve, it no longer works for me. I already removed the e-mail from Steve, but it hasn't changed anything. As far as facebook is concerned, there is no account that uses my University e-mail.

So, likewise, the forgot password option doesn't work either (it just says the e-mail doesn't exist).

The best option I see here, if Facebook won't help you, is to make Steve's account the same as your original one and tell all your friends your old account isn't working so you got a new one. Re-enter your university email for Steve and there you go. I mean, once you change the pictures and name that shows up, no one will even know that it once belonged to a ceiling tile...

Deep down, he'll know. :(

That sucks Alidar. Put the screws to those Facebook guys to get them to fix it. I've heard anecdotes that they don't have a sense of humour about screwing around, but this is legitimately funny. If it were me you'd get a pass on that basis alone.

I could be wrong, but I'm not seeing a happy ending in the future. Nevertheless, good luck AJ!

Can't you get in touch with Facebook and all indignant like, blame this all on a friend's practical joke? Remember the Krusty the Clown motto: Don't blame me. I didn't do it.

Well, I got it back. The odds are that Steve will have to delete his account, though.
