Have fun with the system. I think the games are definitely superior on the 360 right now, but if Blu-Ray is huge for you right now, then the PS3 isn't a bad choice.
I think that's only truer of the older model 360s (or ones with an older DVD drive). I have a new one with the newer heatskink and if it's on all day long, it's barely lukewarm to the touch (my stereo amp runs much hotter), and it's very quiet.
Though you can do well either way. I was on the fence about which one to get myself when I bought mine for Christmas. I went with the 360 because it has the best games now and the best online experience. PS3 may be far better down the road, but I may have bought a PS3 by then. For now, 360 seemed the best and that's what I was getting now.
