Well, definitely no J.J. Abrams for Trek 4

J.J. (probably) won't direct. At this point, he did not direct the last film Beyond , so I just want a ST4. They just need a great script and a good director. :luvlove:

I'm never eager to attack the creative efforts of someone with real talent I lack, but on balance I think the franchise will probably benefit overall from this.

It seemingly didn't help Beyond that he wasn't in the director's chair.

Understand your point

Beyond wasn't set up for great success from -

1st script n director let go w costs already tolled

6 months to write new script before filming started vs over a year or more typically. Rushed n needed more rewritting IMO to clean up

Paramount's craptastic mkt strategy for film to name a few

I thank JJ for breathing fresh air into the franchise as it desperately needed it.
Feel IF ST 4 made will be fine wo him, BUT need better script n scope

What a shame, JJ Abrams' revitalized Star Trek and then did the same thing for Star Wars. He's a great director, very successful and I like his style and creativity. He's unafraid to make bold artistic choices (lens flares) and his two Trek movies were rated very highly. Good luck to Paramount to find someone who has a CV to match.

that was my first thought as well.

bring back justin lin, or pair a simon pegg script with edgar wright as director.

I really don't want Lin back. He doesn't care about the reboot characters and their dynamics, he only wants a tos fanfiction and he's so apaethic and boring in interviews - beside trying to reassure old fans that he, unlike JJ, saw trek as a kid (how many times he said that? )
I just want someone who cares and is really inspired by the reboot and its potential :( why it has to be so hard, I don't get it. I don't want to settle for some guy who maybe didn't even watch the first movies.

Let's be real, JJ's trek was the most successful, it's beyond's fault if the reboot might not even have a future now so no, Lin&Pegg are a terrible idea. JJ was our only hope so far that this reboot could at least try to get back to the magic of the first movie.
I'd rather have no more movies than see another movie fail worse than beyond and go backwards even more because of ~nostalgia. Sorry for being pessimistic but after beyond, I feel really discouraged.

Anyway, I too had some hope JJ could come back since he didn't have other projects..but sw stole him, again
I swear, I'm a sw fan too, but the moment they got JJ it was this trek's demise. I just knew it.

This is good news for Trek. Abrams lacks vision. His movies are messy, dumb, derivative, and over crammed.

That said, it probably doesn't matter because it's unlikely ST4 gets made at this point.
